What is a "team defender"?

It means he struggles with help and off ball defense. It also means he extends to far on ball man defense, allowing blow bys, and forcing his teammates to pull off their men to help. Essentially the same issues we saw with JD and Q last season. Thankfully, there are other better perimeter defenders on this next team to help.

Burnett and Miller(mainly due to his length) will do wonders for us next year. Pending injuries we have a much more versatile roster this year. Last year was just guards and Bediako, with tweeners in Gurley and Rojas.

Mark Sears will prove them wrong once again.

Btw...

Sam Walters might just end up being crazy good!

I mean he’s ranked 15th overall on their list. It’s not disrespectful to point out areas of his game he can improve on.

I don't think I said anything about Mark Sears being disrespected just said he's going to prove them wrong once again.

So if he’s not being disrespected, in your opinion what was wrong about what was said? Other than him being 15 out of the 100’s of transfers and the constructive criticism on where he could improve?

Somebody who helps well, recovers and rotates correctly and quickly, plays his man with the entire floor and defense in mind.

Most good individual defenders are also good team defenders. Some average individual defenders are very good team defenders because they know angles and rotations.

Absolutely. As you noted above, JD or JQ aren't a huge issue alone. It's when you are forced to play both of them + some other average defenders where it becomes a major issue.

I'd guess Sears is probably a smart defender who will be just fine getting to play with quick long guys like Burnett, Miller, Chuck and company.

Burnett is supposed to be a good perimeter defender. But there is a question mark with him coming his knee surgery.

Chuck is good at altering and erasing some shots down low. But he gets into foul trouble if he has to take on too much.

Who else is supposed to be a strong defender for us? Welch? Do we have a guy who can really harass the opposing PG? We need those defensive stops and TOs to really be good. Without looking, I'm pretty sure last season we turned the ball over more than we took it away.

Jaden Bradley & Brandon Miller will be good defenders.

Nick Pringle should be good to.

Nothing is wrong with their opinion.

I guess I’m just a little confused on what you think needs to be proved wrong. He was ranked 15th out of 100’s of players and had a very mild criticism. None of which you thought was disrespectful or out of turn.

That’s why I was asking, not trying to be argumentative, just genuinely curious on what you meant by “prove them wrong again.”

I think we all have high expectations for him, I don’t think that means he’s immune from constructive criticism, or has no flaw in his game.

Thanks! Great explanation. He may not be as quick, but he has more height and blocking ability than JQ or Shack, which should help as he grows into that 6'9" body.

Weren't y'all talking about Sears? He's only listed at 6'1".

Based on that 32 second supercut of incomplete practice highlights it's pretty obvious that Burnett will get to the basket at will, Miller is going to be able to get any shot he wants whenever he wants it, Sears will be a 3pt assassin, and Bediako is going to make Mt. Mutombo look more like Gently Rolling Hill Mutumbo.

Pretty sure I saw a midrange jumper from Miller. We’re bringing it back.

Oscar Tshiebwe, Kentucky: Incredible that we’re picking the reigning SEC and National Player of the Year to win this award, huh? We haven’t seen rebounding dominance like Tshiebwe’s in decades, and his expanding offensive presence has created as big of an impact as any player in the country. Tshiebwe’s style isn’t flashy but it’s incredibly productive and efficient.

Bediako's length and hustle gave Oscar real problems in flashes and if he can put on a few more LB's between now and next season along with finding an outside shot he'd been rumored to be hitting in practice and warmups he can he a matchup problem for Tshiebwe.

I look for Auburn to take a step back defensively for certain because they wont have Walker Kessler to erase mistakes. He made it hard on Oats offense because so much of it was going to the rim.
