Other Top 40 previews (Kentucky still to come I assume)
#13 - Tennessee
#22 - Auburn
#24 - Arkansas
#30 - LSU
#37 - Florida
#13 - Tennessee
quote:
Bottom Line: Like last year, the ceiling for the Vols is quite high considering the production and experience of the returning pieces combined with the talent of the newcomers. It remains to be seen if the pieces fit together better offensively, though, particularly based on the system Barnes opts to employ. The scheme decisions could also be affected by Barnes losing two of his assistants: Kim English (George Mason) and Desmond Oliver (East Tennessee St.) both landed head coaching gigs. Losing assistants is not a challenge unique to Tennessee, but it does add to the question marks after a year of underachievement. Will more shooting, added frontcourt depth, and (hopefully) better health lead to the March run that Rocky Top nation dreams of? We shall see.
#22 - Auburn
quote:
Bottom Line: With the postseason ban having been served, Auburn enters this year with a refreshed outlook. Pearl has reloaded the roster with transfers and a lottery pick recruit, and the team’s overwhelming depth and athleticism should give most opponents fits. Structuring the team’s identity will be a slight challenge, as the Tigers’ scoring arsenal tilts more towards the frontcourt than in years past, but it’s not a problem, per se. As the defense improves, so do the Tigers, and we fully expect to see Charles Barkley’s boys back on the dance floor in March as a result.
#24 - Arkansas
quote:
Bottom Line: Musselman has proven time and again that he can take unfamiliar pieces and meld them into a cohesive unit, with last year’s defense being perhaps his most impressive work. This year’s roster has similar types of players – plenty of 6’4 to 6’7 switchable athletes – but whether they’re up to the same caliber of player as the 2021 team is a topic of debate. Lykes’ health is another concern, although if Davis and Robinson play up to their potential (and stay healthy themselves), Musselman should have enough ball-handling to withstand his diminutive scorer being unavailable. Particularly after last year’s postseason run, the Muss Bus is packed with ardent supporters, and he has a chance to put those fans in a fervor with another deep and versatile squad.
#30 - LSU
quote:
Bottom Line: Despite changing out three massive pieces, this LSU team’s roster construction once again has an offensive tilt to it. Eason and Wilkinson may be the only plus defenders in the rotation, and though the added size inside should stabilize the defensive floor, the offense will take a hit with Pinson/Miller tagging in for Smart/Thomas. The result is a slightly more balanced but similarly flawed team that looks destined to be roughly on par with Wade’s last two squads: NCAA Tournament caliber, but unlikely to make a significant tourney run. Fortunately, Wade is properly handling every other aspect of the job in a squeaky clean manner, so that’s really all you can ask for in this day and age.
#37 - Florida
quote:
Bottom Line: The Gators have some serious turnover on the roster, and without any explicit expectation of Johnson making an inspirational comeback, questions exist with this new group. The four incoming transfers played for teams that went a combined 29-61 last season (none had a winning record), and while the individual players themselves offer enticing skillsets, can they be key pieces on a winner in the SEC? That remains to be seen. Castleton, Appleby, and Duruji exist as a solid foundation, so the floor looks relatively stable, but for the Gators to get past the NCAA’s Second Round for the first time since 2017, White will need to assemble a cohesive unit out of what currently looks like an admittedly intriguing stockpile of raw materials.

Oats is not altogether opposed to two-point jumpers; rather, he simply acknowledges that most players are not proficient enough at them to make the math work.
If you can make them at 60% clip then fire away. There just aren't very many guys in the world that can do that. Having said that, JQ and Shack learning a 5-8 foot floater might not be the worst thing as long as it doesn't become a crutch that gets used too often.

Note: Bates officially committed on 8/25. As noted above, that slides the Tigers up into that 12-15ish range.
They also made an edit to their Memphis preview after the Emoni commitment.

That is good stuff although I would disagree with one part ....

Notice in the above on/off splits that Alabama actually suffered on the offensive end without Jones. He was a tremendous driver and finisher

I think that might be it for the noncon schedule, isn't it? Just need times and dates for the league schedule
Probably a game Nov 9, first day of 21/22 season or that week to make 12 games non-conference. We've played on opening night the last two years. And note, Early Signing Period is Nov 10-17 this year.

Anything above 50% would probably be fine to be honest. It's just that of all the players in the world capable of making 50%+ of their 17 foot elbow jumpers, about 90% play in the NBA.

The article said 50%
"if he has a player who can shoot over 50% from the mid-range, then he’ll have the green light."
That seems a bit low to me.
I am of the opinion that we need to take some mid range shots just to keep the D honest, which would make it easier to get to the basket.

2022 elite forward Jarace Walker is down to seven options, he tells @On3Recruits.
Alabama, Texas, Auburn, Houston, Maryland, LSU, and the G-League make the cut.

I don’t feel great about Maryland’s chances on this one ?? ?? ?? ??
THIS IS FROM ANDREW SLATER REGARDING JARACE WALKER, THE HODGSON CALLING CARD (it’s the shark emoji but it won’t pop up)

Jarace would look good in Crimson&White.

It is usually the Alabama calling card with the sharks, but I think the sharks were moreso for every other school having cutthroat recruiters.

Shhhh, don’t bring reasoning into this. Let me be excited and set myself up for the potential letdown

I don’t like seeing LSU on Walker’s list

He posted the shark in reference to Nimari Burnett before he committed too. Means he thinks its Bama.
Most people think we are the favorite to land Walker we have two Futurecasts for him.

Darius Miles has a nice interview up on YouTube! I expect BIG things out of him. He's a 6'7 PG with much better ball skills than Herb. He is a good passer, scorer, and an above average defender so he has huge upside in my opinion!

I've been thinking about our depth and I must say I'm happy that we are playing a tough if not the toughest non conference schedule.
My Projections:
PG-JQ/JD/Miles
SG-Shack/Nimari/Holt
Wing-Ellis/Miles/Holt
Wing-Gurley/Gary/Rojas
Forward-Alex/Keon/Bediako
