You see it (recruits appearing to believe a slow team is actually a fast team) come up every year, and the only sense I can really make of it is that it's a combination of teenagers being misled by recruiters and the fact that an average paced college team probably looks like they're playing at warp speed compared to most high school games.

Gottfried? Nah, Gottfried was legitimate hot commodity when we hired him. He had been Harrick's top assistant at UCLA for almost a decade with UCLA, then he went to Murray and won a lot. And then he came to Alabama and resuscitated a program that was talentless and lifeless after Hobbs left. Gottfried's tenure ended badly, and he has flaws, but the guy went to 5 straight NCAA Tournaments, an Elite Eight, won the SEC and was 57-39 in the SEC over a 6 year period from 2000-2006. He signed elite players for a decade. When he stopped signing them, he stopped winning.
He wasn't just some random ex-Alabama player who had won 20 games one season at Jacksonville State or something and got the job cause he loved Bama.

That's why I'm still confused about Burnett. All he said last year was wanting to play fast-paced and get up and down the court and he goes to Texas Tech? I'm not sure what they told him or promised him but it takes not even five minutes of research to figure out who goes fast and who is average.

Shaw's Takeaways: Best of Nike's EYBL, by position
POINT GUARD: Jaden Bradley
The point guard spot is all about winning, and Bradley led his Team CP3 (N.C.) team to a 5-1 record in the games IN which he played. Sure, the numbers may not support the eye test, as Bradley is leading the EYBL in turnovers (4.3 per game) and has not made a three yet (0-8), but you look at the assists at 6.6 per game and the points at 18.5 per game and you do not mind how much volume he has taken on because there is no doubt he makes this team better. In the one game he did not play his team took an 81-66 loss. it is the intangibles over the aesthetic. Alabama is heavily involved here, as are Arizona and Kentucky. The No. 17 player in the 2022 Rivals150 visited Michigan, Alabama, UNC and Arizona in June.
WING: Shaedon Sharpe
There is a smooth nature to Sharpe's game. He is capable of scoring the ball at any point, from anywhere on the floor. Sharpe has good footwork and a sharp handle that really enhances his explosive athleticism. Sharpe is averaging 21.6-points, which is good for third most on the circuit, on 44.4% shooting from three. Kentucky and Memphis spent the week watching each of Sharpe’s games.

Seems like Shaedon Sharpe is leaning UK according to the crystal balls.

Kentucky's 22 class is looking like it'll be fricking absurd. They have a ton of 5 stars with predictions for them.

9-16 gave Cal that shot of rejuvenation

That was Cal's first losing season since 88-89. Which was his very first season as a head coach. Pretty damn crazy.

He's as competitive as they come. There was no way he was going to take last year in stride.
Also, because COVID cancelled the tournament I'd almost forgotten how good their 2019-20 team was. Then I watched Quickley and Maxey in the NBA Playoffs and remembered how damn good those 2 dudes were. They could have done damage in that tournament.

Been an impressive implosion of scoring in Day One of Peach Jam for five-star rising senior Nick Smith Jr. He’s got 18 points on 7/9 shooting, including 4/5 from long-range for @BradBealElite. One of the best scorers in the nation.

We're in pretty good position for him, right?

We seem to be, yes. I wouldn't go as far as saying we lead for him, but I do think we are in a good spot.

Latest rumors on our end were that Kentucky had a great shot at landing him when they offered and looks like that has happened.

Any idea how many Kentucky is planning on taking in their 22 class? Because it seems like they could get about 10 guys to sign today if they wanted.

I forget the date on when a transfer has to be in the portal but until that date arrives it would be difficult for the HC to know how many they will sign.

No idea
Regarding Nick Smith Jr, there seems to be this underlying motive being pushed that he wants to play for a blueblood or at least one of the more historic programs. Auburn worried me because of Wes Flanigan and his connections to Arkasnas but seems like most think Nick was waiting on a Kentucky offer now. Kentucky boards are hinting that it has happened now so I guess we will find out.
At the moment his last visit is Arkansas but our lead guy thinks the chances of landing him (especially if the Kentucky offer is legit) is very low.
That being said, things appeared to be sealed fairly well on his end because info on who leads for him seems to change every month.

2022 PG Jaden Bradley (@JBsmoovve) has been tremendous out here in North Augusta. Another great game with 16 points (5-11 FG), 11 assists, 8 boards, and 2 steals in a win.
Plays to his strengths, passes are accurate, and stuffs the stat sheet consistently. Team CP3 now 6-2.

Collin Sexton, Kira Lewis, Jahvon Quinerly, JD Davison, Jaden Bradley, would be quite a run of Bama PGs.
