I mean having surgery and missing time for a broken Pinky Toe is kinda weak.

I broke my pinky toe in college (late 80s -- I accidentally kicked a couch leg while walking past it barefoot) and was on crutches for two weeks. Took me eight weeks to be able to walk normally without pain.

I never realized how much pressure people put on their pinky toes until then.

In those days (and maybe still today) there wasn't much to do to promote healing. The doc taped my pinky toe to the one next to it and told me to rest it as much as possible.

Their players should have a 30 day portal window. Be nice to get Pettiford!

I'm sure Bruce and the power brokers have thought that through. They may have to pay a bit more to some guys but I don't see anyone leaving at this point.

I’d be shocked, but he’s a good to great player and we have a spot I believe. It’s nice to dream

Still, if you were going to do this right after the season would’ve been the move. Smooth transition, have time to get players to replace any that would leave. This is a rough time to resign no matter how you slice it.

Brings me great joy

Latrell Wrightsell Jr. is the best shooter on this team and one of the best defenders. He will play big minutes if he's ready.

The man had BAD injury luck the past few seasons. Concussions and an Achilles injury while at Alabama.

Hopefully that changes this year!

My thinking that we should save heavier minutes for tournament time has nothing to do with his ability. Concussions and Achilles injuries are perhaps the 2 most problematic common injuries to have in sports, because they don't tend to go away. The smart approach for me would be to ease him in as a rotation guy and ramp him up later in the season as a prevention to losing him for the important part of the season.

Can't even blame the training staff. Broken pinky toe in basketball is just rotten luck.

Sure hasn't stopped a hundred people on BOL from screaming about Oats practicing the players too hard.

The real question to ponder... What is the recovery time if we just lop that little guy off and get back to business?

I think he was trying to hold down the fort for his son to have a good incoming class and not lose all the transfers, recruits, etc

They can all leave now though. A month before the season with no ability to replace them instead of several months with the ability.

Maybe he worked that out all behind the scenes. Hope not. I’d like to see them trot out 13 walk ons.

But go where? I’m not sure they’d even be eligible this season even if they did leave, not to mention that it could mess up locker room dynamics for whoever accepted them (and they’d have to have open roster spots).

Is there a number of games rule in Bball for redshirts like there is in football? That could be the more interesting deadline if someone doesn’t like what they are seeing.

I think the fear was, Steven Pearl has never held a head coaching job at any level. If he get's mass defections starting in April of the previous year, does he really have any credentials to recruit with or convince transfers? Think Bruce was holding it down for him until basically the cellar door was all but shut tight and the players were trapped in. Do I think Pearl had a good idea that he was done a while back? All signs point to yes. Did he do wrong by a bunch of incoming transfers and new signees? All signs point to yes.

Pre NIL/Portal he announces this back in April. Just the nature of the game today.

I don't disagree. These guys are still collecting a good sum of money to come to Auburn so I don't have that much sympathy for the players, but Pearl has done more than just hinted he was on his way out for the last year or two. All the political posturing aside, He also became extremely vocal about Israel and Palestine over the past year and I thought that kind of hinted that he is kind of at the DGAF level. Most coaches aren't going to go to hard at something that polarizing publicly unless one foot is firmly out the door. All of that said, the guy could coach at an elite level. Has rarely been the case for the son of the legend.

Things I'm not worried about next year:
1) L. Wrightsell
2) Stephen Pearl

This was a planned move by Pearl to make sure his son coached the team this year. Clear as day.
