But kidding aside, adding/getting back a legit PG is huge. Especially if Philon has a year of positive development. We could put a lot of length on the floor, to counter teams like Duke. It's even better then a transfer, because he'll have an extra year under Oats' system. You hope that his ability to make reads gets even better

but a player with the ceiling of Philon raises the bar tremendously. Its not unreasonable

I was surprised that on Torvik, we only went from #30 to #23. But apparently Torvik thinks very little of Keitenn Bristow and Noah Williamson. Torvik has them as #11 and 12 on our roster. Hell, he has Bol Bowen and Bethea as #9 and #10, so he just seems to hate our transfers.

I wouldn’t necessarily count out Holloway starting

I think he'll start some games. Oats likes to experiment with the roster. But the only guy I see starting every game is Philon (since he can play multiple spots) and maybe Sherrell.

Philon back completely changes the roster IMHO. Guys who could be very good in roles were going to be forced to be something they hadn't been before. Philon lowers that expectation level for all of them and allows them to play very specific roles. Huge.

This makes me happy.

Oats has often mentioned not leaving before his kids are out of school. How old are they mow? Pay the man, again.

He is a great fricking player and elite defender. And more important he lets Biz slide back to secondary Ball Handler which he is more comfortable with than being primary like he was at Auburn.

Yep, we now have a backcourt with a surefire 1st round pick, 2 McDonald's All-Americans, and 2 veteran guys who can shoot the ball.

Agree and like you said guys can relax about their role now and play the position they should play. Thinking we were gonna move a wing to lead guard and compete consistently against the top level teams was ridiculous.
Turning a catch and shoot guy into a lead guard in one summer just doesn't happen. Hell, we tried it with Sears for multiple years and he's still a catch and shoot as the NBA mocks show. He's not projected to get drafted because he's not a lead guard. He can shoot as he showed at the combine but he's not going to break his guy down at the next level which you need at the position he's trying to play.

Maybe Biz and Bethea could have been serviceable but neither have consistently been the lead guard. We desperately needed this.

This dude called Philon coming back (maybe a lucky guess?), so we'll see...

Bad teams are inefficient. Players on inefficient teams get poor Torvik rankings.

This could be like the final 4 team - great offense but not great defense. I exoect 25 wins again

Think we have the pieces to be a really good defensive team. Not quite Miller/Clowney/Bediako good, but better than the last 2 seasons.

Offense should be very good but will curious if we have a bucket getter when we need it. Philon getting more consistent from outside would go a long way, and Bethea is obviously the big wild card there.

Wonder if we’re still pursuing Claude? He plays guard, but he’s 6’6” so would be great in a 3 guard lineup where we need length on defense.

Taylor Bol Bowen alone is going to make a huge impact. Having a disruptor like that who can guard 1-5 and protect the rim at the 4 spot is huge in an NBA system.

Just watch Pascal Siakam with the Pacers tonight for a Bol Bowen comp.

I actually think we'll look a lot like a college version of the Pacers next year. Primary playmaker at point with good positional size (Philon -> Haliburton), undersized 2 guard with good ball skills (Holloway -> Nembhard), a really good shooting 3 (Bethea/Mallette/Wrightsell -> Nesmith), 3-and-d disruptor at 4 (Bol Bowen -> Siakam), and offensively skilled 7 footer who can spread the floor (Sherrell/Williamson -> Turner).

Not sure we are with his iffy shooting numbers and turnover issues plus with Mallette back at 6'6" too. Would be an extra guy to pay as well.
