We are. Along with Duke, UF, Kansas, and Washington. That would be difficult enough without NIL being a factor. With NIL, oof. Duke is willing to fork over obscene amounts.

Speaking of Duke throwing obscene amounts. Local radio in Louisiana this morning while talking about the Nico situation said Duke gave the Tulane QB close to 5mil

Lol I shouldn't get any credit for bring up Malik Thomas, I just remember others talking about Oats having interest weeks ago and saw he is still available.
Dude looks like he can ball and would thrive in a system with multiple handlers.

Him going to South Carolina made calling Falconcock even funnier. We definitely don't need any wings. Probably gonna go to Kentucky. I'd read he was getting $1.1m from SC, so it'll be somewhere with fat pockets.

Well, he's a guard. But, I do think we're probably looking for more of at least a combo guard, if not a true PG.

Not a big loss for SC. Streaky shooter who doesn't play a lick of defense.

Is there any chance Jalil Bethea can run the point? He has great size and that would open us up to having a starting lineup if everyone being over 6’4.
He definitely can. Especially the way we play point. We just have ball handlers, wings and bigs without position. We didn’t see Sears setting up plays or looking to facilitate. Bethea can dribble, drive and finish or kick and that’s really all we need out of any guard

Right. And freshman signee 6’6” Davion Hannah can do all that and play tough defense. Amari Allen too. We do need another point/ combo guard, but those two freshmen can get to the hoop and score.

Cedric Coward and one more shot blocking big will be the icing on the cake. This team can be better than most are expecting.

Coward isn't gonna leave the draft most likely.

Sears was 2nd in the sec in assists per game.

Yes and we had more possessions per game than anyone in the conference. He was a solid enough passer out of set high screen type plays and lobs. But you can’t look at just assist numbers because total possessions and mpg play a huge factor.
My point is that he was never a set play Chris Paul type…and that’s not our offense. He was a combo guard who would drive and kick.

Yeah, really talking about "point guards" with Oats offense is a bit of a misnomer that leads to some confusion.
Oats uses the term "creators" when talks at length in press conferences. He simply means players that can beat their man or use screens to get into the lane consistently and hopefully make good "rim decisions".
Oats continually mentioned Sears, Holloway and Philon as the only 3 "creators" on last year's roster. Guards like Youngblood, Mallete or Rilan nor Wrightsell from the year before were not mentioned.
What's not clear is whether he considers Bethea, Hannah or maybe now Wrightsell (after 2 years here) as "creators".
That's the big question since Oats also continually pointed to the need to have 2 "creators" on the floor.

Coward is going through the draft process, so if you hold that spot and he ends up staying in the draft or someone drops a bag late, you are left scrambling.
