Probably need a starter quality 1 guard. I think Holloway is the archetypal 6th man combo guard. Wrightsell has a good handle but I do not know if he's best served being on point when spot up shooting off a pass is his most lethal offensive tool. Bethea and Mallette are both taller off guard types.
Another big is even more of a must have to be quite honest. Somebody who can play the 4 or 5. You could make an argument that Alabama may be able to find a decent offense without a true point guard but they straight up will not survive the season this front court.

If that’s what we are rolling with, I don’t think we will be very good.
We will look much more like 2023-24 than 2024-25 and that's ok. Probably 4-8 seed depending on how the freshmen play. Hell, UConn was an 8 seed this year.

If he runs the 1, that's gonna be a problem and hurt our tempo. We'll get into the offense too late and he's not a beat the guy off the dribble player.
That would be a big mistake IMO

According to Mac on BOL, he’s leaving the option to come back even though his announcement didn’t sound that way

With the current roster composition an 8 seed would be a solid achievement.
Our lineup is full of holes at the moment.
We have no go to scorer, no rim protector, no true PG, lack interior athleticism and are dependent at least for the moment on guys who were role players on non-tournament teams to develop into start level players in vastly tougher conferences.
These things can change, but lets not pretend the roster hasn't been gutted or that what we have coming in is anywhere close to what we've had the last three years at least on paper.

He needed another year, but won't be surprised if a team drafts him in the first round based on potential.
Hes pretty elite from an explosion standpoint, but compared to truly elite lead guards like we've seen in the conference like Fears or Clayton hes nowhere close to that level consistently right now.
Lacks a consistent outside shot, disappears for stretches and struggled badly against physical guards with size.
Wish him well, this is a really bad break for the 25-26 team as he would've been perfect to cash a big NIL check, develop an outside game and be a 1st rd or even lottery guy.

NBA product is bad because kids leave when they’re not ready. Chasing money is understandable but the game is nowhere near the level it used to be and it sucks from a fan perspective

A 2nd rd pick is only guaranteed like $5.8 over 4 years.
I’d be shocked if Philon couldn’t have made more this year staying in school another year but as with every other facet of collegiate athletics expecting things to make sense is a losing proposition these days.

Like I said before, it would have been nice to know this in time to get in on Xaivian or another top lead guard.
Better then waiting until May and finding out he's staying in the draft.

With multiple people we recruited hard.

With Mark, Grant, Cliff, Jarin, Mo, Reid, Youngblood, Naas, and Philon now off the books we should at least have a significant amount of NIL funds available now.

Hindsight on Jaren. He wanted to go to NC last season but couldn't. So he compared $, coaching plus experience of us vs high school and chose to use us for a year & Cash in knowing all along he was probably going to NC. Explains his on and off effort.

I just don't buy it. We brought in Nelson both years and he could of left last year. Felt like he accepted his role and tried to be a good teammate.
Then brought in bol bowen and another big. Sure that didn't help.
He didn't have a great year this year unfortunately. North Carolina took him so I doubt he wasn't good enough to play for us.
Reid on the other hand was sus if the rumors are true.
Idk feel like we need to add another big F or C to help with rebounding/defense and foul trouble.
Holloway, Sherell, and Wrightsell is the only returning production. Only one was a starter and coming off a crucial injury.
Going to be a completely different team. Nate has his work cut out for him.

Old enough I should have seen what he was doing long before now. That's for sure. There were some articles at the time that he wanted to go to NC but they wanted him to wait a year/didn't have a slot or some such.
Posted on 4/14/25 at 7:28 pm to Alum69
lulz, last year UNC was DESPERATE for frontcourt players. They'd have done anything to have Stevenson on the team. They missed on every single big they targeted.
Such a shite theory. lmao.

That was out of high school. They had room for him in the next year's class if he didn't reclassify but he did and we landed him. It didn't work out and now he's going back home. It's not some conspiracy nonsense.

granted he did usually look like a chicken running around with his head cut off, but the effort was always there.
