Scoring wise I think we’re fine.

Holloway / Wrightsell / Mallette / Philon is ultra elite on the perimeter, the defense there is the rub but the kid from Miami should help on that front.

As for the front court I think Sherrell is ready as a 5, you have the two stretch 4 guys in Stevenson and Williamson and then Reid has massive upside. Not really sure what to make of Bowen but he was highly recruited and has a lot of length so that’s a start.

I’m most concerned about replacing Cliff, Nelson and Mo defensively.

Wrightsell will have to be the go to scorer but you don’t just replace a Sears as a focal point. That said Holloway was one of the best offensive players in the conference from an efficiency standpoint and I happen to think Mallette could be a big time player if he comes back healthy so I just don’t see points as an issue next year.

On paper it’s not the 24/25 team but that’s an elite lineup that can play with anyone.

i agree. the offense and depth are there, defense and rebounding are the big questions. i do agree about adens potential, esp if a guy like philon does come back to set him up.
bowen to me seems a guy that could benefit greatly from 20 lbs of muscle to better utilize all that length, esp now that hes in a real power conference. he does that then i could def see the D and reb rate improving but yea, solid potential for sure.

Rumors are starting to swirl that Reid might be entering the portal.

Just a ridiculous state of affairs. This is no longer college sports but just mercenary games.
Have a decent season OR not, wait for the highest bid, leave, and we get to do the same to other teams. Just non sense.
These are team sports which require cohesion, chemistry, loyalty, and team spirit not a charade of everyman for himself. We don’t pay to watch that.

Golden is a damn good coach. Be interesting to see how he does without Clayton next year though.

Care to say where you’re hearing these rumors? At 2:03 am some insider called you and talked to you about Reid?

We have some pretty bonafide tapped in posters on this board and none of them have said anything about it. Everyone realizes it’s always a possibility in modern college basketball.

You could say “rumors are swirling” about literally anything. Rumor has it the earth will split open and the devil will wreak havoc on Thursday. Sure it was a crackhead in 5 Points South who told me the rumor, but you never know.

What's crazy to see is how many 5 stars from last year's class will not be in their original team. If they aren't entering the draft, a majority of 5 stars have entered the portal. Even ones that were successful as freshmen that are leaving places that have NIL to spend.

No they're not. He very well could but there's literally no one credible saying that.

The way the refs are calling the game, you basically need a human bull dozer to play center, and just lower the shoulder and drive through any defensive player that gets in his way in the paint. It just crazy that they let offensive players just lower the shoulder and drive through anyone in the paint.

The officiating in the 1st half and the 2nd half were considerably different.

They must have called 30 fouls in the 2nd half.

That's been a theme for many of the games this season. One half will be a wide open rugby match and the next will have both teams in the bonus by the second media timeout.

I thought the refs had screwed Florida by the immediate clamping down on what they called fair play in the 1st half. However, Houston did not adjust to the whistle getting demonstrated to them after Florida had upped their physicality to start the 2nd half. They quickly caught up to Florida in fouls and got to 10+ fouls before Florida.

Really maddening but I don't think it favored anyone at the end of the day.

I'm pretty sure Florida was in the bonus with 7 fouls only 6 minutes into the second half.

It was pretty obvious that the FL coach had jacked them up about playing physical. I dont believe their coaches were worried too much about fouls except the 2 flagrant fouls. I think it was their Auburn game that one of the FL assistant coaches had a 3 minute profanity filled tirade and told them it was ok to lose but it was NOT OK to get pushed all over the court.

You are not going to beat the thug physical teams unless you are willing to get in the ditch with them.
