There are plenty of guards that don’t rely on athleticism. Trelly is one of them. Nothing he does is predicated on being able to move quickly or jump high.

If you aren't quick enough as a guard you aren't playing D1 ball. It's that simple. Tearing your achilles saps you lateral quickness. It just does. No, he's not a "hyper athletic" guy. But he's a high end athlete to be in D1

Watching the ISU-KU game right now.

Its so hard to watch other teams play after watching Oats' teams the last half decade. It's like they are stuck in mud.

Kansas is not a great defensive team, and ISU is struggling to score. I don't understand how they are so high in offensive efficiency metrics. I know teams have bad games, but I am not impressed watching this.

Not impressed with Kansas either.

Iowa State looks awful. Was looking forward to this one but this is just a terrible watch. Flipping to UAB - North Texas.

Pretty tough turnaround from a Saturday major let down against Kansas St to a Monday road game at a blue blood coming off their worst collapse in program history IIRC

Yeah this is a bad basketball team. They can’t score at all and any time Kansas gets a paint touch they end up with an open shot. They’d be up by 25 if Griffen could hit an open 3.

Mo Dioubate (Alabama)
He should be a starter when he’s healthy. We need to start setting the tone early in games. Problem is he plays the same position as Nelson.

Setting tone is important, but not always the best idea to start your best 5 guys. Having a role player or 2 in the starting lineup can allow you to bring in a scorer or top defender with the 2nd team to maximize production amidst 1st and 2nd team. As Oats always says, it’s really who finishes games that says more about who you trust to win you the game.

Like Pack said, I'm not sure he can play his role with the same juice for more extended minutes right now. He plays so hard and with so much energy that he infuses the game when he comes in. Feels a lot like when Herb was clearly one of the best 5 but kept coming off the bench. He's the only guy on that list that isn't a big who is mostly hanging out down on the block on defense. He's chasing around the other teams best wing, helping, hard cutting from the wing on offense. His effort exertion is massive.

Is Mo can have an other offseason where he gains a little bit from 3 and gains 5-7% from the FT line along with the ability to play 25-28 minutes a night he is going to have a monster season in 2025-2026 (and be a coveted professional player).

Yeah, the starting lineup should be your most well rounded lineup, which isn't necessarily your best 5 players or even your best lineup.

Agree with everything you said there. But this is a huge point. And Mo D is a muscular dude, much moreso than Herb. His development will hinge on his conditioning. But he has got a hell of a motor and i think he can get it done. S&C program will probably try to slim him down 5.

I’d love to be able to see our defensive stats from tip-off to the first media timeout. Seems like the Jarin lineup does a pretty good job keeping the game in front of us

I watched Stevenson in warmups before the Ga game. He was hitting everything. Only saw him miss one 3 pt shot, and it carried over to the game.
Hopefully he is starting to come around.

other than the turnovers Nelson had a really good game, scoring, rebounding and blocking shots.

He must contribute in ways we don’t see. Oats benched our best player in a tight game for being pouty. He’s not playing dudes out of loyalty

His excitement/celebration after hitting that opening 3 show the demons he’s battling.
