Travis Branham from 247 said he likes Bama's chances for Jasper Johnson and that he's closing in on a decision.

Great interview.
And I said it before, and Oats confirmed it at about 36:30, regarding small lineups. To paraphrase, he said he could run a 4 guard lineup with either Nelson or STEVENSON at the 5. I figured they'd be trying to add some muscle, to allow Jarin to play either front court position situationally. Obviously he isn't gonna go up against Ballo, but with his height, I expected to see him used at the 5. He's still young, and had a good frame. And there's nothing Oats seems to love more then versatility.
One thing that did surprise me, that i haven't seen anyone say, was that "Youngblood can definitely guard the 4."
I mean, I knew he was strong as hell. But to hear Oats say the word definitely was cool. Because that really opens up the possibilities. He also said Philion can guard 3s.
It seems like the only guys who are slightly questionable at 2 different positions (defensively) would be Sears and Holloway. But you wouldn't want them out there together without a strong rim protector, or they'd probably get scorched.
But we've ran two 6'1" or less guards together the last few years, and had success defensively. And an elite rim protector has been the difference between us having the #3 vs the #100 defense. Because it's not like Quinerly was a good defender. But having that rim protector allows to play drop and defend efficiently.

If he stays in 25 class I think Bama gets him. If he decides to re-classify, he is going to Illinois most likely.

Coach Oats is feeling his oats.
quote:
Nate Oats to @SethDavisHoops: “We've won eight tournament games since we got here. There's other highly acclaimed blue blood programs in this conference that haven't won anywhere close to eight NCAA tournament games since we've arrived.”

Are you sure you're not thinking about Will Riley? Because he did reclassify, and he did pick Illinois. I'm pretty sure Illinois is full now, but I could be wrong.
Edit: there has been talk him off reclassifying. But the more I read, i just don't see how he doesn't end up at Kentucky. He's from the area, his dad played football there, his mom is related to another former Kentucky football star, his grandfather was a local high school football coaching legend that also was Kentucky's associate AD. I just don't see him going anywhere else unless Pope really looks like shite this season.
Here's an on3 article link ..

Riley was number 12 for Illinois. They have an opening.

This is from a very reliable source.
--
Assuming he stays 2025 ...
Kentucky sitting 4th as of today ...
Tier 1: Bama, UNC, Illinois
Tier 2: UK, Baylor
If he goes 2024 ... Bama is out ... UNC is out ... Baylor is out ...

Big news for the NCAA tournament committee selection process...
Good for Torvik to finally get the respect he deserves. And it's free. I'm pretty sure this replaced Saragin.

Mac says it’s between us and UNC. And that we feel good but far from a done deal
Posted on 7/11/24 at 9:24 pm to mistaken4193
Not exactly. Mac said....
Then added
And later...
How in the hell did a multi generational Kentucky legacy, who grew up in Lexington, grow up as a UNC fan?

I will add that we don't think it is a done deal by any means.

The overlooked part about Sherrell is his soft hands. He will be a big improvement from Pringle in that department. He looks good on those PnR plays going to smooth to the basket. Big Cliff should be an upgrade there too. Oats loves that high screen action. We got some guys who can attack the basket with authority next year. Im looking forward to seeing Grant be able to play without worrying about foul trouble.

He took less than 300k when Cincy offered 800k? That’s a helluva sales pitch from Oats

In all honesty, I was fairly shocked when he mentioned the 300K. I didn't realize we were there for the 3rd highest player on our basketball roster last year. The 800k from Cincy is just hard to really fathom. With the right money management that can be life changing money.

And it also explains why we missed on Tyler Betsy.

If I put that with the guys who take care of our money, $800k would pay out between $60k and $75k a year in dividends. He would never need to work a day in his life if he kept things simple.

That's kind of my thoughts as well. Obviously I'm older and settled in and don't need to experience the glamorous life, but I could easily live off investment returns for the rest of my life with that money and never work again.

So Jamie Shaw and Joe Tipton both said we are in a Good Spot for AJ Dybansta. And Mac even said we feel good but a long way to go. He would be a MASSIVE MASSIVE GET. Like He is an Anthony Davis/Kevin Durant level of impact Freshman.
Tipton also likes where we are at for Jasper Johnson, Caleb Holt, and Mikel Brown.

Have our boosters gone nuts with NIL money since our tournament run? That would literally be unbelievable.
