When? He wasn't a liability on defense. He was actually pretty good just like pretty much everyone else on our roster. Nothing he showed on defense suggested he has a future as a lockdown NBA defender though. He wasn't Herb, or even Ellis.

You’re right, he’s three or four years younger than both.

You keep harping on that, but no one is trying to argue that youth is a bad thing for the NBA. It's a good thing. Everyone acknowledges that. Herb was showing flashes of elite defensive play since day 1 though. Primo did not.

Primo definitely showed flashes of elite defense play.

hold on fren, not so sure about that one. primo did win a hard hat or two did he not? the arkansas win is one example of that. primo def showed flashes of elite defense, and usually played solid D throughout the year. bama doesnt get the 2nd best D in college without primos contribution. offensively he also showed flashes of maturity well beyond his age like in the auburn and lsu games. to be a solid contributor for a top 10 college team when you shouldve been in high school isnt something id think pro scouts would ignore.
to sum it up, is he ready for the nba? ofcourse not. is he a second rounder based on potential and current level of skill? seems pretty obvious to me. i hope he stays though. could become a first rounder if he does, not to mention our goal of a championship run becoming that much more likely.

I don't know about all that. Petty wasn't a lock last year, and I can't think of anything that Primo currently does better than Petty did last year. He might get drafted on potential, and he also might not.

Dribble, Dribble, Dribble, and attack the rim. Probably can shoot just as well also. He definitely will get drafted. His potential is off the charts.

So where are we at numbers wise? Did Oats take Gurley knowing Primo was likely to go? If Primo does end up coming back, does that put us one over?

I won't say 100%, because the way that his draft entry message was written. But he averages 8 ppg, shot 43% total and 38% from 3. He looks like a future NBA player. But right now, with the inconsistency he's shown, he's very late 2nd round, at best.

You also have to consider, there's 30 teams with 450 players total in the NBA. So you have only 60 draft spots, split amongst college and international players. Even if you get drafted in the last 2nd, that doesn't guarantee a spot.

Now, I'm not familiar with how it works with teams relegating players to the g league that were late draft picks. So it's possible he may be a take. It just seems crazy to leave, when another season could be the difference between millions.

Four programs staying in close contact with Chandler Jackson

Standing 6-foot-4, Chandler Jackson is a strong and sturdy guard who plays with balance and a great pace.

“I am a point guard, I can pass, I can get to the rim, I can knock down a shot. I can do pretty much everything you know. I can defend, rebound. Some coaches tell me I play like Anthony Edwards because I can get my shot off, you know most others say I am a true point guard,” Jackson said.

College coaches have already begun to take note of the Christian Brothers point guard, who lined up with Team Thad’s EYBL team at the On the Radar Sweet 16.

“I got offers from Creighton, TCU, Ole Miss, Alabama, Florida State, Wake Forest and Vanderbilt. I would say I am hearing the most from Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, Florida State and 'Bama, all of them really, but mostly those four,” Jackson said.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

Alabama: “I talk to Coach O, head coach Nate Oates. We talk about how they play and how they can get me to the NBA. They like big guards at the school so I fit that description. Overall, I like the school really, I like them a lot.”

Wake Forest: “I talk with assistant coach BJ McKie with them a lot. You know head coach Steve Forbes is a winning coach, he won a ton at East Tennessee State. This was his first year there, they did well for his first year and they are going to keep getting better.”

Vanderbilt: “Me and assistant coach Faragi Phillips talk. He is from Memphis so I talk to him like every day. He talks to me or my family every day. That program is all about development, these last couple of years with Saban Lee and Aaron Nesmith. They talk to me about how Coach can develop players pretty well and get players to where they want to be.”

Florida State: “They talk to me every day about how they like big guards down there. You know, Scottie Barnes was a point guard there this year, he is like 6-foot-9. Patrick Williams came off the bench there and he was a top-five pick. No matter if you come off the bench or start, as long as you buy in there, you’re good.”

“Virginia Tech and Oklahoma are a couple of schools who are talking a lot and haven’t offered yet,” Jackson said.

WHAT'S NEXT?

“I want to go to a school where I can fit in and play my game. It doesn't matter if I start or come off the bench, as long as I play. I want to have a good relationship with the coaches as well.” Jackson said, “I really don’t know when I will narrow things down, I still would like to see who else will offer me this summer. I love the offers I have right now and am really developing a relationship with the coaches and all, but I want to see what else comes this summer.”

The NBA is such a funny league right now with regards to the draft.

Last year, Isaac Okoro went #5, and that dude shot less than 27% from 3 and less than 70% from the FT line. He can jump out of the gym and can defend though.

Primo is certainly more skilled offensively than Okoro, but Okoro looked like a grown man and his potential was evidently there...maybe.

Here's ESPN's article. What he told ESPN sounds better for next season. Sorry if it was already posted.

If not, I'd be fine going back to Alabama, where I'll have a bigger role and be able to do even better things as a sophomore."

What are you disagreeing with? Ive never seen a D1 guard as clumsy with the ball as Petty.

That Primo dribbles or drives any better than Petty. He needs a lot of work in that area. His ball handling might be sliiightly better, but his decision making, passing, and turnovers in those situations were worse.

Anyway, it seems like I'm saying primo isn't good, and I'm not saying that. But, he has some weaknesses that need work, and driving to the basket is at the top of them.

This is the vibe I got from his Tweet. He probably knows that he's not currently on any first round boards, but wanted to keep the option to leave open just in case he received unexpected positive feedback in terms of going in the first round.

Shack made it clear that he's coming back because no matter what happens, no one is picking him first round. His size for his position puts him at a huge disadvantage. If he wants to get drafted, he will have to show the potential to be a PG (don't see it) or have a Markus Howard type of scoring output one of these next 2 seasons.
