Please post this in the Nate Oats thread. Too many football fans in there that can’t comprehend his offense isn’t the fricking problem

I would clarify that. The system isn’t the problem. The offense is a problem, because they turn it over a lot and struggle to get the ball in the basket a lot

I see we have returned to the bargaining stage and are once again convincing ourselves that good things are going to happen.

The bargaining stage is going to be when we talk ourselves into beating Texas Tech, I'm not there yet but the voices in my head have started whispering "pace of play."

I’m full sail. Defense is going to magically get better and we will shoot like South Dakota State for the entire tourney.

We beat 3 #1 seeds to win the title.

Notre Dame is as perfect a matchup for our defense as we could hope for. Rutgers and Texas Tech are better than most

As long as these teams don't have good penetrating guards, we should do better than normal. That seems to get us in the most trouble. We get beat off the dribble and force our help defense into a bad defensive and rebounding position.

Being worried about this year's ND or Rutgers team says a lot about where we are as a team this year. Hopefully, our staff has learned some lessons to be better prepared for next year with roster building and game planning.

Thoughts on 2023?

Which direction will we trends in year three? I would think if we can pull a 6 seed with this team, we SHOULD be able to improve on that for next year. Unfortunately, so much depends on how ready the incoming freshmen really are.

Id say a top 3 recruiting class is a good start on the roster upgrade

Yea, they don't. Especially Notre Dame. They don't exploit the things that are our weaknesses at all. Notre Dame is basically the opponent you draw up in a lab for us and our issues.

Yep. And as a program we really haven't had great luck with that outside of Sexton. Of course, we haven't had great luck with transfers either.

We don’t have an ELITE scorer at all 3 phases at guard. We also don’t have an elite defender inside or outside.

I think we really need someone who can pull up and pop from midrange. Everyone keeps saying that Oats doesn’t like that, but I’m sure if someone could hit shots he wouldn’t stop them.

I’d be interested to see how Oats would have let Sexton play. He actually hit some shots here and there. He was explosive more so than JD is too. JD is obviously the better PG overall, as Sexton has transitioned into more of a 2 guard in the pros.

I dont think therell be any disappointment with any of the kids coming in... Especially miller, hes a bonafide nba 1st rounder, bradley is a pure pg, and RG is a shooter and defender, and very underrated. Ive kept my expectations in line with what our roster needs as well as being proud of the culture and stability coach oats has brought. As of now, uk, ut, aub, ark, and us are the only programs that have stability and momentum... The rest of the league faces uncertainty or are about to go under regime changes. Uk, Bama, and ark will be the favorites next year in any order, tenn probably next and then the barn probably by default. From 6-14 will be a complete crapshoot.. although mizzou and LSU will prob bring up the rear. The league has gotten better and im glad we are in a good position to build a long term successful program

Five out of nine CBS members have Alabama losing in the first round and the opponent hasn't even been decided yet. I feel like we're going to be the trendy upset pick that backfires on everyone.

Are you suggesting we are giving Coach K his final loss of his Hall of Fame career?

Yep, Miller is very similar to Jabari Smith.

When I think of those two guys I’d compare them to Kevin Durant with Durant obviously being the best and Jabari 2a and Miller 2b.

Miller is going to be able to create his own shot in college with his size. I just hope we see him pull up from midrange and drain some to open the defense up. We have no midrange game at all. I know it’s not Oats favorite, but as I said before, if he felt comfortable with someone taking those shots he would allow it and we just don’t have that guy.

The midrange topic is interesting because bradley and miller have midrange games. Griffen is a scoring guard at all 3 levels as well... So with those guys i could see oats wanting to limit the 3pas next year to around 20-22, and we should have 4 to 5 guys able to be a 3pt threat.

What I want from Bradley is a floor manager. If he’s more, then that’s awesome. We just need a great facilitator in this offense. We need someone who can find the hole in the defense whether it be outside or inside.

JD has excellent passing ability, but he turns it over way too much and ends up being a liability in crunch time. Also he doesn’t defend well.

Unless they can shoot 50% from midrange, and I seriously doubt they can, it's not a good shot.

Miller likes to finish midrange and attack the rim... And handles ball better than jabari. If he played for img, monteverde, or sunrise he d be one of the 3 highest rated hs players in his class.. #10 is too low for him imo. Oats doesnt mind midrange attempts we just need to finish those when we take them

I mean is 300+ in 3pt percentage a good shot?

It's totally fair to compare a HS senior to a future HoFer with an MVP, 9 All-NBA selections, 4 scoring titles, an a 50-40-90 season.

I’m talking skill set not achievements. Durant obviously took his skill set to the next level and became a HOfer, but Miller has the foundation skill set compatible to Durant. Durant has a few inches on him too though.
