He's going to be alright. It's coming just a matter of time for his offensive game.

Oh yeah. He has gotta play going forward. Him and Keon at least give us a chance defensively and his offense will come.

Very big win last night. A loss and the pressure and bad vibes become huge for Saturday. Instead, all of a sudden the remaining schedule looks pretty reasonable.

Hold serve at home and split @Vandy and @Corndogs and we should end up with a good seed.

I'd also like to point out that we are home wins over Arky and State away from our old friend 17-9.

The good news is we've played super well in the "huge February home game versus Arkansas" in recent years

Holt is almost like a guard version of Gary last year. He can come in and play really hard for a stretch. He's comfortable throwing his body around to get some rebounds and loose balls. He's still a freshmen and I don't think he's ready to be thrown out there on the other teams best player or anything, but he is giving us good minutes. I think he's gonna bust a 3 in the next game.

Also, on Gary, I assume his minutes are limited bc he's still not comfortable with that injury. Anybody know anything different?

I don’t think we’ve played a Q4 game since 2019. Because we didn’t have one This year or Last year. And none of the SEC teams were Q4 in 2020 conference play

Alabama’s Hot-Shooting Too Much for Ole Miss in 97-83 Victory

The Crimson Tide connected on 14-of-22 (63.6 percent) from beyond the arc en route to the 14-point win

OXFORD, Miss. – Junior guard Jaden Shackelford scored a career-high 30 points on the strength of a career-high-tying eight three-pointers leading Alabama to an impressive 97-83 win at Ole Miss Wednesday night.

As a team, the Crimson Tide (15-9, 5-6 SEC) shot single game season-best marks of 60 percent (36-of-60) from the field and 63.6 percent (14-of-22) from beyond the arc. Alabama also had a season-high 23 assists on its 36 made baskets.

Shackelford knocked down 8-of-13 threes to lead the charge as four Crimson Tide players recorded double figures in the victory. Freshman JD Davison had 18 points and eight assists off the bench while senior Keon Ellis (13) and graduate transfer Noah Gurley (10) also reach double figures on the night.

Ole Miss (12-12, 3-8) was led by Jarkel Joiner's 33 points in the losing effort.

Head Coach Nate Oats Postgame Comments
"I thought our guys showed a lot of fight. Ole Miss came out hitting shots and got up by as many as 11. Instead of getting discouraged, our guys continued to play hard. We made some defensive adjustments and it obviously helped that we shot the ball well. I think we finished on a 30-8 run to end the half and showed some real resolve to fight our way back in it. We know we are more than capable of shooting the ball well. We had multiple guys shoot 50-percent or better from three. We haven't really had an issue with the offense this year, even though we haven't shot the ball as well as we'd like to. Defense is where we have to improve and I thought we had some stretches that we were really good defensively. There was also some stretches where we weren't that good and we still have to get a lot better. I am happy to get a road win. Florida (last road win) seems like forever ago. I am really excited for the guys."

Team Stats
Alabama's 97 points was the most scored by an Ole Miss opponent since the last time the Crimson Tide played in Oxford, taking a 103 -78 win on February 22, 2020

Shackelford's 30-point night was the Tide's first 30-point game since Kira Lewis Jr. posted 37 at Georgia (2/8/20)

Alabama's point guards Jahvon Quinerly (9 points, 8 assists) and Davison combined to account for 27 points and 16 assists

It is just the second time this year the Tide had eclipsed 40-percent shooting from deep (shot 53.5 percent vs. Miami on Nov. 28

If the SEC tourney started today, we would be the 7th seed (LSU/Vandy with the same record, VAndy and Ala both are 1-0 between the 3 teams but Vandy has a win over Ark and we don't so 6) Vandy 7) Ala 8) LSU

If we beat Ark on Sat, we would move to six because Tenn would be the next team up and we've beaten them and Vandy has not - unless they beat Tenn Sat.

#7 Seed would play #10 A&M and winner > #2 Kentucky.

So sixth seed is much better than seventh in this scenario assuming we want to stay away from the Cats. Sixth seed would play the winner of Ark/Tenn Sat if they beat S Carolina first.

6/7 seeds also stay away from Auburn until the finals.

All this is rubbish for now but interesting to check out.

Yep - honestly I really want to win Saturday because if we do then I think we're basically a lock to make the NCAAT regardless of the rest of the season (unless we somehow lose out, and even then I still think we'd be in).

Then at that point it's all looking forward to the NCAAT. Even less stress than last year where we were trying to lock down the SEC and then the SECT

Holt's night and huge +22 in +/- in 26 minutes was a major boost.

Offensively, Holt was a career 37% 3-point shooter in high school and was like 39% his senior season, so he showed at the previous level he can fill it up. I just don't think he has played enough this year for the game to slow down enough for him to be comfortable with his shot yet.

If he keeps getting 15+ minutes going forward like he did tonight, I think you'll see him settle in on offense as well. He just needs minutes that he hasn't been able to get due to the brutal schedule.

He looked much better in the offense even last night as the game went on. He made 2-3 very nice looks, spaced well, chased down some rebounds, had that nice cut and dunk.

If he can just clean stuff up and make good passes on offense with the occasional cut and score then the 3 pt thing is just an added bonus. His defensive chops + length and rebounding popped off the screen last night.
