Oats has his system so the offense is what it is. In theory we won’t shoot 25% from 3 forever. But the defense doesn’t have to be this bad. That’s on everyone from the coaches to the players. JD brings literally nothing to this system. He can’t play fast without turning it over, he can’t shoot the 3, and he can’t guard anyone 1-5. He can jump high. That’s it.

In theory, yes, but when you account for Gurley being a bust and JD looking nothing at all like a future pro basketball player it's not surprising how bad they are. We have a few good not great defenders and everyone else makes a turnstile look like a brick wall. The roster construction and recruiting evaluations are what the staff should be catching heat for, not a failure to adjust the style of play.

I wonder what the percentage of 3 point shots get blocked every year is. It has to be high for us to keep jumping out and fouling them every game...smh

At a certain point, you just have to give them props. Now obviously our D is an issue, but they are still hitting these shots. Both contested and uncontested.

They can’t miss because of confidence. They know they can play well against our defense and they are “getting lost in the game” according to Oats. When Mizzu plays KY, Tenn, etc., they are worried about turning the ball over and getting blocked which lowers their confidence and shooting. Shooting can be a very mental game, sometimes even more than physical.

Why the frick would he adjust his style of play when that Style is repeatedly getting open looks. Oats can’t shoot the fricking ball for them.
