Gurley performance is encouraging

Yeah we need Shack to get his shot back and JD to get a lot more focused, but the Gurley progress is very encouraging.

Ellis has kind of been disappointing too. 2 points on 3 shots tonight. I really thought he was gonna take the next step this year

Finally some life!

We are just a passive team. Last year we were firing from 3 at the smallest opening. This year we put it in the floor unless we are wide arse open

Oats needs to peel the paint at halftime and we come out with a Miami 2nd half

Yeah forgot Ellis. We need him to pick it up as well. He hasn’t really even been as locked in defensively as we’ve come to expect. Much less offensively.

When I played HS ball, our coach instituted a play called “cutthroat” where we essentially free-styled it. The idea sounded good, everybody just do what you want and get open, but it ended up all we ever did was stand around the 3 line while somebody tried to go 1 on 1 and the 5th guy set a screen. It never worked.

It seems like that’s what Bama is running. Regardless of the 10-0 run, we just stand around the 3 line while somebody goes 1 on 1 and the 5th dude goes for the rebound.

It doesn’t work long term. What are we doing on offense? Run some actual plays Oats.

The problem is they’re leaving a help defender near the lane because someone on the court can’t hit 3s. That negates the drive to the rim. Then, the other defenders just stay glued to their guy on the arc so the driver has no outlet. Either the other 3 guys need to create space for each other or we play with Gurley at the 5, which makes defense iffy at best.
