I may be in the minority, but I don't think we have been taking enough 3's this year.
We have been passing up a lot of open looks early in the shot clock in lieu of trying to work the iso drives and pick-and-roll with JQ/JD on the ball and Bediako/Gurley off the ball.
I know Oats likes to use a green-light, yellow-light, red-light with players on the floor about when they are allowed to take 3s, but I have seen JQ/JD/Miles/Ellis pass-up too many open 3s to drive in the last 2 games. Ellis/Miles/JQ are too good of shooters to pass on an uncontested 3. Even if its 5 seconds into the shot clock and we haven't had a paint touch.

Last season, when shite was headed south and shots weren’t falling, they played amazing team defense to stay energized and hold on until the game came back to them.
I'm slowly realizing that I did not appreciate Herb Jones enough last year. I mean I loved the guy and knew he was good, but his impact was greater than I realized.

You and everyone in the NBA. He is averaging 27 minutes per game and has started 19/31 games as a rookie 2nd rounder. That's not very common.

Seton Hall had to forfeit a game today due to covid. It counts in their conference standings (they are 0-1) but not in their overall record? is that correct?

I absolutely agree. We’ve passed on good shots more frequently and noticeably than I can remember in the past three seasons. We’re averaging ~29 3PA per game on the season, which is basically what Oats wants, and that’s only down ~1.5 attempts per game from last season, but if we’re going to play fast with four out, we’re going to have to take the open looks we get from it.

Primo playing on ESPN2 right now
He is so smooth and talented.
Surprised he's not on the Spurs roster.

ETA: When we pass on those open looks, especially early in the clock, we’re essentially giving away any advantage we had by playing our style. We get stuck in an undersized half court offense against a defense that has time to reset and things can get a little predictable. We take more contested shots at the rim or force kick outs into tighter passing lanes. Defenders are in better position to rebound and we get less second chances opportunities. The game slows down and gets us out of rhythm.
Basically, we do everything we can to get those looks and it affects our entire philosophy negatively when we don’t take them, even if it’s a miss.

Tanking in the NBA doesn’t mean the players are actively trying to lose the game. All of these teams have talent, and are capable of winning any game. The spurs have an absolute 0% chance of winning any postseason series and would benefit heavily with a lottery pick. They’re tanking regardless of their piddly win streak against the covid list backups.

I’m not trying to personally hate on your team. I’m an OKC fan and we’ve picked up some nice wins(including the Spurs lmao) but I’m not delusional to the fact we’re tanking. Y’all are 12-18 and lost to the kings 2 games ago.

I wouldn’t touch that number. I expect about 10 to be the MOV tonight.

I'm just saying the tanking doesn't really matter. I don't like the Spurs or really the NBA anymore. I was always a Lakers fan but all the political stuff has ruined it.
I just think Primo should be in the league.

Something I found interesting: Alabama’s pace of play and 3-point attempts have trended downward.
KenPom tempo (poss/40min):
2019-20: 74.8 (4th)
2020-21: 73.3 (11th)
2021-22: 72.3 (31st)
3PA/game:
19-20: 30.9 (2nd)
20-21: 30.0 (4th)
21-22: 28.8 (19th)

Friendly reminder that Josh Primo is younger than Chet Holmgren, Paolo Banchero, and Jaden Ivey. Spurs received a lot of criticism for “reaching” at 12. Would’ve gone higher in 2022.
