Guy on TI a couple days ago was saying that we’re getting a new arena and it’ll be located near the softball field

Tomorrow is game day! I'd love to see this team get off to a little better start this year. It's going to be tough with all the new guys, and the schedule we have.

Yeah, hopefully JQ, Shack and Keon Ellis in the backcourt / perimeter will help.

Seeing Herb's immediate value on an NBA roster has just underlined how much his presence will be missed.

If anyone wants my two tickets for tomorrow's game, send a note to [edited to remove]. I'll be out of town unfortunately. First one gets them.

Got no responses so I guess these will go unused.

but with a little fewer mid range shots. NBA has become very analytics driven.

I agree with this. The analytics love Oats' teams and NBA teams that are analytics driven will obviously see it. Also, Oats' tempo and transition elements are strong which translates well to 24s clock + NBA transition trends

... but

It's basically an NBA system,

The NBA has trended heavily towards Pick n Roll / ISO centric offenses.

My understanding is Oats runs predominately a motion offense, right? That is not very common at the NBA level, I want to say only the Warriors, Spurs and Heat are really known for successful use of motion concepts.

I don't think NBA players particularly love the motion offense. It doesn't lend to high usage superstars + requires really high level bball IQ/awareness of role players + passing ability. Role players today are starting to get high specialized, not many guys who check all the boxes necessary to be good motion O players

does his game translate to an NBA game?

Reality is, if he wins at a high enough level, people will notice and start asking if he fits regardless of his 'system.' The real question will come down to if his personality/culture connects with NBA millionaires

I think Oats' hardhat blue-collar culture is very effective in CBB with 18-22 year olds trying to prove themselves. Not sure if that would work at NBA level unless it has full organizational buy-in + roster personality compatibility, which is rare. Really only see that with 'Heat Culture.'

I could see Oats being successful in the NBA, but I think he is a better fit in CBB

I suspect they were gone when little Avery finished playing anyway.

What you're saying makes no sense. He was a TV analyst when Bama hired him. He's a TV analyst now.

He was making almost $3mil a year and nobody was knocking down his door to hire him as a coach. Unless he just up and decided college coaching wasn't for him or that he didn't like paying taxes on that much money he wasn't going anywhere.

From everything I’ve seen, Herb has just immediately transitioned into being a good NBA defender - maybe one of the Pelicans’ best defender.

I don’t know that you can lose Herb (just a monster defender in college) and John Petty (a good college defender), and not take a step back defensively.

But this isn’t a pessimistic post. I think we easily could be a better offensive team, while not falling off a cliff on defense. Herb and Petty (especially) could be pretty loose with the ball, so you could envision a world where we cut down on turnovers and are more effective on drive and kicks. Hopefully just a better ball handling team in general.

I agree. I'd also add that we almost have to be improved when it comes to finishing around the rim. I love Herb and Petty, but they were terrible at that for guys with their height.

I hate that Tchikou is apparently a fricking immature dipshit. Because he's got NBA talent and he's pissing it away.

I had no idea that JQ and Gary were suspended during the exhibition. Maybe I missed it, but don't know if that ever made it in here?
