We can just agree to disagree. Either way, we need Shack to take better shots and we need Keon to be more aggressive.
In all though, I think our main issues were just like they were last year against Iona and UCLA. When teams slow down the pace of play and we aren’t able to push the ball as much as we’d like, we decide that moving on offense in the half court is unnecessary as well. The ball just dies on offense, guys just stand still around the perimeter, and we either make contested (often stolen) passes down in the post or play hero ball and jack up bad 3s. We can’t seem to play with the same flow and energy in the half court if teams take away our transition game. We need to be more resilient and play our game in the half court even if teams take away our transition game.

Literally every coach we play against disagrees due to how they defend Shack. He’s being defended with the respect a shooter of his caliber deserves.
One could argue that college coaches are smart enough to know that Shack is going to hoist them up every game no matter what, when guys like Keon are only going to take them when they are spoon fed to him.
Shack is a pretty good shooter, but everybody (including himself and Oats) needs to stop acting like he's some new age Reggie Miller/Ray Allen/Steph Curry. He's a pretty good shooter in college that is also quite streaky and known for forcing shots that aren't there.
~35% is about the minimum for someone that I would consider a "good" shooter.
I would classify Shack as a volume scorer. He scores a lot of points, because he takes a lot of shots. Scoring 16 points doesn't really do shite to help the team win if you aren't being efficient, taking care of the basketball and playing strong individual and team defense.
Shack is an undersized and somewhat inefficient scorer with a negative assist/turnover ratio that has become an average to above average perimeter defender. That can be a pretty good college basketball player, but it also isn't a Naismith winner or NBA Draft pick.
I don't know who needs to hear this, but Shack isn't some game changing type talent. Shack is a pretty good college basketball player that shows flashes of greatness in short bursts. His professional basketball career opportunities are going to ultimately come from overseas. I'm glad he's on our team - he's a great fit when he plays true to the system and doesn't force things - but there are times in almost every game when he just single-handedly wastes possessions by trying to do too much when the situation begs for simple basketball teamwork.

We’re gonna beat Gonzaga, Houston, and Memphis and get all hyped and be FULLY all in.
And then go lose to CSU and JSU and have us questioning our existence as Alabama basketball fans LMAOOO

True. I think earlier last season a team kind a slowed us down a little and I think it was one of those teams in an early season tournament. I can't think of the team though.

Awesome. We'll see Nate match wits with the next Nate Oats.

Damn, I’ll check back tomorrow after the game. The mood in here is depressing and all of a sudden we are Georgia. It’s one game. It’s a long season.

Chad’s take on Shack is dead on (as always).
A couple more observations:
1) did Holt even play? His defensive intensity and rebounding effort is pretty good and given our shooting woes, would have loved to see if he could have knocked a couple shots down. Guys looked a little tired at the end and we play 3 in 4 days, so not sure why Holt didn’t play other than not trusting his ball handling.
2) has anyone else noticed our guys are scared to step in and take a charge? We swipe at the ball or go for the block, but helpside defenders aren’t putting their body on the line. Herb was the master at this last year, and unless we are worried about injuries, I don’t understand why we aren’t doing it this year. The South AL guy almost fouled out our whole team taking charges the other night…sacrifice your body and take the hit! Shacks taken a few as the on ball defender, but I bet our stats on charges are way down from last year (blocks are probably up though).

Just rewatched some of the game....and I think Pitino baited us into driving the basketball by design and that’s why we didn’t shoot many 3s.

Was it ever proven true that we had rick pitino in Ttown for an interview? I know the rumors were everywhere. I forgot about that

No way. .
Pitino was toxic after that stint at Louisville.

I know Holt playing time has been limited but he is 0-6 on the season. I like his hustle but not confident in his scoring ability at this point.

I can’t believe people here like Holt, but complain about Shack lol Holt literally does nothing.

Shack needs to pitch camp on the three point line right now he is our best shooter from there and forget about going into the lane and doing what he usually does, cough it up.
JD HAS to get a lot more aggressive, he has the game to do what Shack and Quinerly can't, that is not get rejected going to the basket.
