McNeely just seems like he's going to be that easy to hate white guy who plays at a program people love to hate, in large part because of him, for 3 or 4 years and wins a lot of games to go along with a long list of personal accolades. A Laettner, Hansbrough, Timme, etc. type player. Personally I'd love it. We're already one of the villains of the sport so a player like that would be fricking great to have. You have no idea how badly I want us to turn into the evil empire in two sports.

A new contender has emerged in recent days, however, as McNeeley has been linked to Alabama by people in the know. If a visit takes place in the near future, Nate Oats and company could become a real threat to snag the Texas-born star. He’s no lock to land with the Tide obviously, but mutual interest is emerging

There he go...

I hope his mom has a big say in what happens. My feeling is she's full gump and would love another year. G-league? Europe? Minimum NBA minutes? None of that compares to what she gets in Tuscaloosa

I want him back. But i don't like the idea of his mother influencing his decision for what benefits her. It should all be about Mark and what's best for him. No doubt she enjoys the spotlight. But I'm sure she has his best interest at heart. Though I do get what you're saying.

McNeely has NBA measurements and can guard elite players between the 2-4. If he shows that potential like most expect, he's a one and done, maybe 2 and done at worst (like Primo). He's not a tall, slightly clumsy sniper like Walters. Dude is balling out at currently the best prep school in the country. I'd be shocked if he was in college for 3-4 years, regardless of where he chooses.

When are we gonna start getting these "big time" portal guys with all this money that oats apparently has at his disposal?
I'm sure that Coach realizes what putting big dollars out there (especially too early) can do to team unity, and individual player satisfaction.
Some folks don't realize that $$$$ can destroy individuals' attitude, then the entire team, if perceived as unfair.

He's got the perfect amount of growling and enthusiasm while screaming Get That Motherfricker. First thing that popped into my head after seeing that nugget.

But I'm definitely showing my age. Though Mystikal does hold up much better than most old no limit tunes. If we landed McNeely, i might have to celebrate with some Young Bleed.

Chemistry issues are the biggest concern. Especially because it's all done in the dark, rather than through open negotiated contracts. And in basketball, chemistry often beats talent in March. Just look at the success the Ivy conference has had the last couple tournaments.

I'm not too worried about what happens. Oats has shown he knows what he's doing. We just need 1-2 guys that can get to the rim to finish or kickout for 3 and a bunch of 3 point shooters to go along with a rim protector. He'll put the right guys together.

Oats is close to getting me to the same place Saban did with recruiting. Where I know we are getting great players, and quit following recruiting to avoid the BS and drama.

Who is Oats’ biggest portal miss? Pringle? Who ended up being a serviceable starter on a F4 team

Probably Dom Welch, maybe Wague. But there's been injury issues with both of them.

I think Welch would have been exactly what we wanted had he not been hurt so much. Wague was just a body at a time where we were desperate for any bodies.

I'd say probably Beetle Bolden? But we were in "add bodies" mode at that point. We really haven't had any terrible fits.

2019 - JQ
2020 - Bruner (was great until injuries)
2021 - Burnett, Gurley
2022 - Sears, Welch
2023 - Estrada, Wrightsell, Nelson, Wague

In terms of having little, if any, impact probably Dom Welch. But I think he was playing at less than 100% when he eventually got on the court.

Beetle Bolden is probably the worst though. He made up for being a turnover machine by averaging 1 foul every 3 minutes.

I think we got pretty much what we expected with Pringle. Maybe thought he'd become a bit more of a rim protector given how bouncy he is, but I don't think he was ever seen as much more than an athletic energy big.

In hindsight I think I misremembered Pringle’s recruitment. He was the #5 juco pre-NIL and not #5 in the portal. Those are VERY different things

Yeah, he was a juco guy, not a portal transfer. And it's pretty rare to see juco guys do anything. That's why Keon Ellis' ascent to NBA starter had been incredible.

Yaxel Lendeborg on UAB was a juco guy and he was one of the most productive players in the country last year. Some really good players come out of JUCO, theyre pretty rare though.
