Still never got an answer to my question, of whether last year's megathread was the biggest ever for basketball.

I would think it was. Quite a run.

I was the organizer and first member of the Play Gary More Club, but I don't know how much he's even going to play this year, unless he drastically improves his shooting. That's not a knock on him, but he's more of a traditional power forward than anything else, and Oats has recruited some guys that fit the system better

With as deep as we our, I think playing time will vary depending on match ups. You'll see a few guys get their minutes, regardless of opponent (Quin and Davisson), but other will probably vary a lot.

I think they use the information from the analytics company for each game that shows them the best match ups to have on the court.

Nate Oats on Managing Alabama Basketball's Roster Before 2021-2022 Season: "It's a Good Problem to Have"

The Crimson Tide coach is expecting some underclassmen to test NBA draft waters and will take time in trimming the team's 14 scholarship players down to the NCAA's cap of 13

The 20 biggest commitments (so far) from the college basketball transfer portal (247Sports)

quote:

12.  Nimari Burnett, G

New school: Alabama.

Previous school: Texas Tech.

2020-21 stats: 5.3 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game.

Bossi’s take: A McDonald’s All-American in high school, he never found his footing at Texas Tech. A full summer in a program and added strength should do wonders.

20. Noah Gurley, F

New school: Alabama.

Previous school: Furman.

2020-21 stats: 15.4 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game.

Bossi’s take: With his mobility, athleticism and ability to knock home some shots from beyond the three-point line, Gurley looks like a tremendous fit in Tuscaloosa. He could compete for starter’s minutes.

Wesley Cardet commits to Samford

Suffice to say that should make most everyone think twice about their amateur scouting skills considering how high everyone was on him 8-12 months ago

They finally won something.

All Samford needs is Langston Wilson and they’ll be your dream team

Langston is too good for Samford. He will be at a Power conference school

He definitely has the upside, athleticism like that doesn’t grown on trees, but I’ve seen 3 full games(very small sample size) and he seems lost on offense, no rhythm whatsoever and his shot needs serious work. If I was a P6 school with an open roster spot I’d take him on as a project off upside alone, but he won’t be a contributor at a major school straight out of the gates.

ha how the 4th best big on a mediocre nc becomes the top transfer is a mystery to me, but im also far too excited at the notion of gurley and co running him out of the gym to care about it.

Alabama AD Greg Byrne to represent SEC on Division I Men’s Basketball Committee

quote:

The Division I Men’s Basketball Committee will feature five new members for the 2021-22 season, thanks in part to the Division I Council’s approval in January of a proposal to expand from 10 to 12.

Both committees consist of one member selected from each of the five autonomy conferences and three members selected from the seven highest-ranked nonautonomy conferences based on basketball success. The remaining four members are selected from the 20 other conferences. All appointments will be for five years.

Current chair Mitch Barnhart, director of athletics at Kentucky, is completing a five-year term that began in the fall of 2016. The chair of the committee for the 2021-22 season is Tom Burnett, commissioner of the Southland Conference.

The Big Ten’s representative will now be Mark Coyle, the director of athletics at Minnesota. The Pac-12 Conference will be represented by UCLA Athletics Director Martin Jarmond. Other first-year committee members include Keith Gill, the commissioner of the Sun Belt Conference, and Barry Collier, who will be representing the Big East Conference as the director of athletics at Butler.

The Southeastern Conference’s appointment is Greg Byrne, the director of athletics at Alabama. Byrne, who has been in his current role since 2017, previously served in the same position at Arizona and Mississippi State and worked in the athletics departments at Kentucky, Oregon State and Oregon. Byrne holds degrees from Arizona State and Mississippi State.

Thanks. I tried myself, and didn't see anything.

And after reading my post again, it sounded kinda bitchy and passive aggressive. If I didn't know I wrote it, I'd have thought I was a count.

It will be interesting to to watch him try to bang around with Tchikou and Bediako. I like our chances.
