And the fact that a new arena looks dead.

I know this is a dangerous topic to bring back up but I have to ask. How much importance is placed on a new arena compared to fan perception? From everything I've heard and read, Oats hasn't complained and haven't heard any complaints from former players and the main importance is on facilities that are apparently top-notch.

Now personally, I really want a new arena but I don't think on a list of importance it's as high for Oats as it is for the fans.

As far as the Texas job, I think we're safe. Oats is due for a raise anyways, he's not even in the top 20 in basketball. Get him a new deal and let's increase that buyout that's already at 10 mil currently.

This is all technically true. Our non-Coleman basketball facilities are as good as anyone's and those are what matter the most when it comes to winning.

To me a new arena signals that Alabama wants to be an elite basketball program and is serious about getting there though. Yes it's mostly perception, but perception isn't something you can totally dismiss either. It matters. It's the difference between staying in the "good not great" tier of programs and moving into the "great but not a blue blood" tier of programs, which is where I think we all want to end up.

We should see an opening Kentucky line in an hour or two.

When was the last time we were favored by 5 or more against UK? ever?

I’m still thinking the line will be less than 5.

I see StepL did his annual alabama basketball is the greatest thread on the rant….

Is it me or does it seem like every time he does it our basketball fortunes change for the worse?

Found my way over to Kentucky’s basketball board yesterday, and man do they known nothing about our team and our system.

They also don’t seem to understand they’re 10-4 and have no marquee wins

There are some awful takes in there. It is almost like they think this year's team is exactly like last year's.

“Live by the three die by the three”

“All we have to do is defend the three point line and they don’t defend very well”

It’s just lazy takes at this point lmao

Hell in Rupp last year we went nuclear from 3 and still got blown out

In reality, our offenses have been pretty damn consistent under Oats. The difference between the decent and great teams has actually been the quality of our defense.

I agree, and the arena is more about the fans and IMO the powers that be don't give a rat's arse about the average fan.

And based on Tue. night's attendance with huge blocks of empty seats and an announced attendance of 8500 for the conference home opener for possibly ( probably) our best team ever, I'm not sure I blame them.

That's not really fair re Tuesday imo. There were tornado/storm warnings all over the state and 8pm.

SI write ups from today’s press conferences

Nate Oats Compares 'Spoiled' Kentucky Basketball Fans to Alabama Football Fans

Oats referred to both Wildcats and Crimson Tide fans as 'spoiled' regarding high expectations due to year-in and year-out success.

What’s No. 7 Alabama’s Plan for Oscar Tshiebwe?

In order for the Crimson Tide to defeat Kentucky, it will all start with containing one of the nation’s best in the painted area.

It wasn't a shot at all imo. It was a compliment to the UK program. Nate even said that UK is still the team to beat in the SEC. That Matt Jones guy sure is mad though.

We really need to take care of business tomorrow. Realistically, it’s very hard to not have any letdowns or bad games throughout a whole conference season, but tomorrow doesn’t need to be one of those. Save that for a road game against a tough team that we may or may not win anyway, we need to win at home!
