Arkansas state made 19 3s against alcorn state. 2nd most in program history.

This has Nate's fingerprints all over it.

On the broadcast the other night they said this was the first time starting the season with 3 games of 100+ since the 1950-something team.

So my question is what the hell were those boys doing back in the 50s to score so many damn points?

Basketball's offensive development has not been linear like football. It was, for decades, a game of pace, skill, and teamwork. Then for ~20 years from 1990-2010 or so it turned into a game dominated by 1 on 1 prowess and defensive physicality. Now it's back to being a game of pace, skill, and teamwork because of the outside shooting/shot quality analytics revolution.

Sounds more like defensive fundamentals were horrible back then. There's no 3-point line to stretch out your defense, you could just plant your shot-blocker right at the rim, and you're still allowing more than 100 points?

It'd be fricking funny to have a transitive victory over the corndogs in basketball before Thanksgiving.

But even with "bad fundamentals" today's Alabama would probably beat that 1950's version by 40 or more. There's simply no comparison to the skills and athletic ability of today. In 1950 it took a 6'11" kid took about a day and a half to lumber from one end of the court to the other, today it's about 2.3 nanoseconds.

So true. In fact, there was little focus on defense. That's why Bill Russell was such a revelation. There is just no comparison to the game then vs now. Look at some old film, it's hilarious.

I generally want SEC schools to win OOC to help with strength of schedule, but in this Anthony Grant beating them would make for some entertaining melts.

I would love to see the 2023 Bama team play one of the 1950s Bama teams.

In football too really.

The fact we play 8 top 100 KenPom teams in the Non conference is INSANE. I love it.
