Wrightsell has a very smooth stroke. Elite level form also. I truly think if we have him last year instead of Burnett when he went cold, we make the final four. After Millers injury we solely had to rely on JQ’s dribble and drive. Having Wrightsell and Sears would’ve given us two knockdown guys on the wings while JQ broke the defense down. However he’s not the defender Burnett is. I wonder how he’s doing at Michigan?

Nice win yesterday for the Lady Tide over Auburn. Hope to improved seeding for the NCAA tournament.

I’m a huge fan of JQ & Nimari. Both great guys/players. Glad they’re both playing well. If they stayed, they’d probably have huge roles on a title contender. Neither are projected to make NCAAT. We’re fine & just reloaded. Guys think the grass is always greener. It usually isn’t.

Happy birthday, Mark!

Tide Hoops History@BamaHistory
Today is the 22nd birthday for SEC Player of the Year candidate and Muscle Shoals native Mark Sears, who transferred to @AlabamaMBB after playing two seasons for Ohio University.
Sears, a 6-foot-1 guard, played at Muscle Shoals High School, before finishing his senior year at Hargrave Military Academy where he led the team to the Final 4 of the Prep National Championship with a 37-4 record.
In his two years at Ohio University, Sears became a staple for Mid-American Conference accolades. He earned MAC All-Freshman first team (2020-21) and All-MAC first team his sophomore year (2021-22).
Sears joined Alabama last year and started all 37 games in the Crimson Tide’s historic 31-6 season that included the SEC regular-season and tournament championships and becoming the first Crimson Tide team to be the overall No. 1 seed for the NCAA Tournament.
This season Sears is leading the SEC in scoring with 20.6 points per game, shooting 45.1 percent on three-pointers (60 of 133) and 86.1 percent from the free-throw line (130 of 151). He is also averaging 4.3 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.8 steals.

Michigan is arse, will miss the tournament by a mile, and will have a new coach next year.

Sears definitely has 1 year of eligibility left, correct? His year is the last of the extra Covid year guys?
At 6-1 without elite athleticism for the NBA game how is Sears looking in terms of NBA or other pro prospects? Given that he is 22, in the past it seems like a no brainer that we would try to turn pro to start making a living even if not in the NBA.
But how much NIL money would it take for him to make more than a G-league contract or overseas league contract? I have no idea what the earning potential is for guys like that in their first year or two.

That’s a pretty perfect passive aggressive post. Lol

Nimari Burnett is averaging 9 ppg on 39% shooting for an 8-18 Michigan team.

Praying for John Petty. I hope he can turn his life around. He was arrested Saturday for DUI again.

He's an a-hole who should have been fired the first time he assaulted another coach, but Michigan is a really difficult job in the current environment. Their basketball NIL is apparently non-existent and their administration is pretty notoriously hostile towards non-graduate transfers. It's tough to win at the high major level these days when you can't recruit the vast majority of portal players or hang onto the talent you develop with NIL checks.

You like offense? Look no further than Alabama’s two games on the schedule this week.
Wednesday: No. 1 offense vs No. 9 offense (Florida)
Saturday: No. 1 offense vs No. 7 offense (Kentucky)
Also of note, Alabama has a higher defensive efficiency than both UF and UK.

Next two games are now against Top 25 opponents:
#13 Alabama vs #24 Florida at Home Wednesday
#13 Alabama vs #17 Kentucky at Rupp on Saturday
1-1 is what I think will happen but play defense like we did vs A&M (minus the O-Rebounding we allowed lol) and play our normal offense and 2-0 is easily on the table. I just know Kentucky’s gonna get a Kentucky whistle at Rupp like always, but their defense is worse than ours and we can make them pay for that

That 3P% column is the difference in this team and past Alabama teams that I'm not sure other people get. Past Alabama teams had streaky shooters who could get hot and have great games but could also be all off and have horrid overall shooting games.
This team doesn't just take a bunch of 3's, they are elite at shooting them. We have not been elite at making 3s previously under Oats. This group is.

Returning to last night's discussion, I wonder how much of this improvement is the product of having guards who don't stop the ball or constantly try to make difficult shots. Estrada has been an OK shooter but nothing spectacular and Sears and Griffen were on the team last year. Wrightsell was obviously a huge addition but we lost Miller. Walters is a deadeye but on low volume. Stevenson has been better than Clowney, but not remarkably so and also on low volume like Walters. It's all kind of a wash on paper in terms of personnel. Seems like every 3 we take this year is open and in rhythm though.

It's hard to tell if it's the chicken or the egg. Knock down the open ones and that leads to more and no one feels as much pressure to force as many shots.
Not sure how related but I was actually very concerned about this years' team when we simply shot lights out against a few weak teams but then had below average or disastrous shooting nights in 4 of the first 6 bigger games. (Arizona, Creighton, Ohio St, Clemson).
Whatever it was, we really turned it around in big way.
