Looking at the schedules, I'm not sure 6 losses gets us comfortably in top 4. I think Auburn and Tennessee finish with 4-5 losses each, and I think Florida finishes with 6 (they play us twice but other than that have an easy run-in). Kentucky probably loses at least a couple more. We'd have to bank on South Carolina finishing 3-4 or worse (which I think they will).

The only team that I view as remote threat to finish 12-6 from the group outside of the existing top 4 is UF. They play us twice like you said, but they also have to play at South Carolina and at UGA. UGA has been bad lately, but I still wouldn't chalk that up as a Win.

Since Wimp's final season in '91–'92, we've won 20+ games only 13 times in 31 seasons (0.419).
If we win three more games this season:
coaches with [20+ win seasons] since '92
Oats [3/5] • 0.600
Grant [3/6] • 0.500
Gottfried [5/11] • 0.455
---avg--- [14/32] • 0.438
Hobbs [2/6] • 0.333
Johnson [1/4] • 0.250
In the 14 seasons from '06–'20, we only made the NCAAT twice.
In the 31 seasons since Wimp, coaches not named Mark Gottfried have made the NCAAT four times.
If we make the NCAAT this season, Nate Oats will have done so four years in a row.
coaches with [NCAAT berths] since '92
Oats [4/4] • 1.000 ** corrected for COVID, thanks auisssa and SOG
Gottfried [5/11] • 0.455
---avg--- [13/31] • 0.419 ** corrected for COVID, thanks auisssa and SOG
Hobbs [2/6] • 0.333
Johnson [1/4] • 0.250
Grant [1/6] • 0.167
Just a friendly reminder that we're currently living in an amazing timeline, and outside of maybe Gottfried's early-2000s run, it's arguably the best one of the past three decades.

He is 4/4. There was no NCAA tournament the COVID year. We wouldn't have made it, but it never happened.

Those are nice. We should wear them a few times every year.

There's no argument to it. This is easily the best run since Wimp broke out the pimp hand.
Even though Gottfried made 5 straight NCAA tourneys, he only had winning conference records in 3 of his 10 full seasons and only made it past the first weekend of the dance once.
Nobody else comes close to Gottfried's accomplishments and Oats has already surpassed them.

Oats consistently gets his guys to play hard on the road. Gottfried always had his teams looking like the Generals playing the Globetrotters away from tHangar. There are plenty of differences between the two in terms of the quality of their coaching, but that's probably the biggest. You can't win the conference if you can't win on the road.
