Ennis Whatley, a 6-foot-3 point guard from Phillips High School in Birmingham, had a much too brief two-year stint playing for @wimpsanderson1 and is THE player that first drew me to @AlabamaMBB. His talent was undeniable and he played a prominent role in some of the Crimson Tide’s most memorable victories in the early 80s. In his freshman season, @EnnisWhatley helped Alabama shock Kentucky 48-46 in Rupp Arena to win the 1982 SEC Tournament title and played all 40 minutes in a 74-69 Sweet Sixteen loss to North Carolina. His sophomore season included resounding wins against No. 1 UCLA in Pauley Pavilion and Georgetown with Patrick Ewing, but ended with a disappointing 73-50 first-round upset to Lamar in the NCAA Tournament. Regarded as the top point guard available, Whatley entered the 1983 NBA Draft and the Kansas City Kings picked him 13th before trading his rights to the Chicago Bulls. Whatley played 10 seasons in the NBA and became a member of the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame in 2015. So Ennis Whatley, my favorite childhood player, is here to remind you the 2023-24 basketball season tips off in three days.

Those tiers don't make any sense to me from a statistical standpoint. You've got Memphis with 50+ wins over top 100 and <50 losses to top 100 in Tier 4, while OSU with <60 wins to >80 losses is in Tier 3. Seems the tier lines should all be radiating out of the bottom left of the graph.

Playing a lot of top 100 games and winning nearly all of them > playing a lot of top 100 games and winning most of them > playing a lot of top 100 games with mixed results > playing a modest number of top 100 games with mixed results

I think that's what they're getting at at least. Ohio State plays a lot more top 100 games than Memphis, but both have had mixed results recently, so Ohio State is a tier above because their overall SoS is going to be better.

Depends on the 5 star, Brandon Miller lived up to the hype and then some, not many, if any veteran SF’s in college that had a better year than he did

Yeah, it's obviously the catch-22 of college basketball.

Most of the elite players never stick around long enough to build the proper chemistry, and the veterans who do have it usually aren't the elite players.

Imagine a Phi Slama Jama scenario today where guys like Clyde Drexler and Hakeem Olajuwon stayed in school and played with their team for three or four years.

True. I agree for the most part I’d rather have a top veteran college player than a 5 star but some 5 stars are so good they are better than the veterans. Its a case by case basis and the veteran is a safer bet usually because you’ve already seen what they can do at the college level and you know what you're getting.

NCAA denying almost all of these 2nd time transfer waivers. I’m glad too. You gotta draw the line somewhere to help coaches manage their rosters.

Ole Miss can swing many ways this year based on that

NCAA takes way too damn long to make decisions on these but I'm not shocked because its the NCAA

We tried to get a couple of them. That's why by the time Nelson entered the portal, i thought Mandy Hunt was going to peg us again.

Especially considering 2 of them were guards. But y'all knocked off Kansas and lost to the champion, so y'all managed to do good when it mattered most.

I like Estrada and Nelson better than any transfers Arkansas got but I think Arkansas got the best transfer class overall. El Ellis, Khalif Battle, Tramon Mark, Chandler Lawson are all really good players. Menefield is solid too but I think he’s ineligible.

We have gotten the last 3 champions in the bracket. We have also gotten #1 seeds. Heck of a draw.

I think Wrightsell is going to be a lot better than expected when roles get settled.

I would love to see...

Sears
Wrightsell
Estrada
Stevenson/Walters
Nelson

I did too. She seems to meet personally with all their top recruits.
