Went to bed at halftime. This old coot cant go past 9 central time. Was surprised to see Bama get the W. Also saw we had 6 players in double digit scoring. We have 4 most games but 6 is great. We will need Wrightsell to beat UT.

Or tied for fourth. Wouldn’t they get the fourth slot in sec tourney right now?

It's Oats and we basically don't have a legitimate center yet still beat Auburn.

If Bediako came back we would probably only have 2 or 3 losses.

Which shows just how great Oats has coached these guys up

I agree with most of your comments.

But the word if has no meaning at all.
What if Bediako came back? The same goes for all other teams.
Please support Bediako, who chose to become a professional for his future, and focus more on the current players.

I have no ill feeling toward Bediako. I was just speaking in general. I wish he was here because this team with him could win the championship, but I'm appreciative of when he was and wish him all the best

I wish him well, but whomever convinced him to go pro last year led him down a road to likely no future in basketball.

He went undrafted, played 11 games in the G league where the average salary is something like $40,000 a year, blew his knee out, and isn’t on any roster anywhere now.

Forgetting what having him as a rim protector would mean for this team’s defense, if he’d have stayed he’d probably be getting more than he made in that short G league stint and greatly improved his professional chances.

I could've sworn that Bama was picked to finish 5th for this season and the reasons why...

1. (2) First Round Draft Picks with one being Brandon Miller (who was the best player in the country as a FRESHMAN).
2. Alabama lost their top (3) assistant coaches to Division 1 head coaching jobs.
3. Alabama lost Nimari Burnett, Jaden Bradley, Jahvon Quinerly, and Charles Bediako...(2) of these guys would've been starters on this team.

But somehow...this team has managed to win twenty games and they've played one of the TOUGHEST schedules in college basketball.

So I think and I'm sure many other fans agree that this team has great coaching and leadership because if they didn't we wouldn't be sitting at the top of the SEC right now.

You're a better homer when you bring facts like this. Keep it up.

This thread just kinda sucks now. It has been taken over by people who have zero perspective for basketball. I was stupid enough to think having a top 25 program that is playing for seeding annually is exactly what everyone wanted, but apparently even that isn't good enough.

In my teens I would have jackhammered a grandmother for this squad

As the game progresses, if you see poor performance or shortcomings, you can always point them out.

But I can't stand comments that deny the entire season and criticize the team. Let’s look at it calmly and objectively. This season is by no means a failure. Bama is not a member of a mid-major conference. It is part of a high major conference that is extremely difficult and competitive.
As others have said, we've lost a lot of players and a lot of coaches.
This season's freshmen are really good players and prospects, but think about it just a little bit. The top prospect was a young 17-year-old who was reclassified and needed at least one season of experience.
Most of the players who transferred were from mid-major conferences. Although they may be in their fourth or fifth year, they also need experience in a major conference.

There are a lot of shortcomings and sloppiness, but we are 20-8. The coaching staff and players are really doing their best.

Please do not look at things too pessimistically and negatively, but look at them positively.

It's essentially a rebuilding year, and we are going into March sitting atop the SEC. I might point out things we could do better on the court, but you won't find me complaining about the season. If our guards were all 3 inches taller, I think we'd be Final Four bound, even without a Bediako.

People get spoiled quickly.

It's been over 30 years since getting into the tourney was all but a given and the goal was to make it past the Sweet 16.

I'm THRILLED to be back there again.

It’d be nice if Oats could manage to not have a team this bad on defense every other year. Some of that is just roster turnover realities but would love to see more consistency on defense year to year.

I still stand by this statement but the effort went up after I posted it.

Same, our coach has a good program for playing the selection system but also toughening these guys up before they go on the road in conference play for the first time.

Yes, all our conference losses are on the road thus far but they're against elite opponents. Prior staffs would not prep these young men in OOC play and they'd end up going to Starkville or Oxford and taking an L.
