Furtado is a classicly frustrating hard throwing lefty. You watch him in warmups and are wowwed. You look at his numbers and think that can't be right. Then you watch him pitch and it all makes sense.

you’d like to think a coach would be yelling for him to check the base runners

At least Furtado has eaten some innings I guess. Should have the full pen other than him available tomorrow.

Yeah the score looks worse than what the game was. They just blew it open to close the game.

We should have all our best relief arms available behind Hitt tomorrow. Hopefully we can score some runs and make things interesting. I think they found a weakness in Tamez' defense today that I fully expect them to try and exploit again tomorrow. Hopefully he is able to rest up and tighten things up tomorrow.

Win or lose tomorrow, unless we get absolutely blown out, I would consider this a series we should be proud of. Outside of a couple upside-down innings late tonight, we've gone toe-to-toe with the best team in the country.

Not sure why McNairy got pulled when he did. He was at 74 pitches in a 3-2 game, two runs having come in the first off an infield single and then the bomb. I feel like he couldn’t easily gone another inning if not two more. May not have mattered but that game got out of hand quickly when Furtudo came in. I feel good with Hitt going and Jean unused so far in the series. But gotta score more than two tomorrow.

No doubt - and Tennessee is every bit as deep and all around good as advertised. They've got like 8 legit arms and a deep lineup with scary guys 1-9. We haven't looked overmatched at all. Very good sign and makes me feel good about the rest of the SEC slate. Georgia is struggling, Carolina is average, LSU is good not great, Auburn is good not great. Arkansas is very good, as usual.

We have a shot to win 16-17 SEC games if we keep playing the way we have the last 2-3 weeks. And that'd probably guarantee a solid #2 seed somewhere.

Would love to get that one tomorrow but I couldn’t be happier with how this team has come along. Hope we can get a rocking home crowd for the UGA series next weekend. Everybody come on out! (don’t forget the revenge game against UAB onTuesday).

No. 24 Crimson Tide Suffers 9-2 Loss at Top-Ranked Tennessee on Saturday

Alabama baseball suffered a 9-2 loss to top-ranked Tennessee on Saturday evening at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. The 24th-ranked Crimson Tide is now 23-13 overall and 8-6 in Southeastern Conference play.

The two teams combined for four homers, leading to six of the 11 total runs on the night. The Volunteers used a two-run home run in the first and a solo shot in the third to build a 3-0 lead early. Alabama countered with a two-run homer from Zane Denton in the sixth to make it a one-run affair, but Tennessee answered with a pair of solo home runs and used a throwing error to score three in the home half to put the game out of reach. The Volunteers would add three more in the eighth for the 9-2 final.

Jacob McNairy (4-1) suffered his first loss of the season despite another solid start. The senior tossed 5.0 innings, allowing three runs on four hits and three walks with two strikeouts. Tennessee reliever Camden Sewell (4-1) earned the win, allowing two runs on five hits with two strikeouts in his 4.1 emergency innings of work. Sewell entered the game in the top of the second following an injury to UT starter Chase Dollander.

From Head Coach Brad Bohannon
"Jacob (McNairy) did a pretty good job tonight. He gave us 5.0 innings of three runs, and we'll take that every time out. He exited with the game at 3-2 and gave us a shot. We just didn't do as well out of the bullpen and defensively today as you need to, to be able to beat the No. 1 team in the country on the road."

Fire works already! Tony V and some other coach gone.

They seriously thought that Zane intentionally hit the pitcher in the arm with the ball while he was at bat? LINK

quote:

Chase Dollander started for the Vols and began the night with back-to-back Ks. Alabama's Zane Denton then approached the plate and drove a line drive directly into Dollander's throwing arm, and the sophomore crashed to the turf in pain.

The ball ricocheted off of Dollander towards Lipcius, who got the out at first, resulting in a 1-2-3 inning. As Dollander was on the ground, Tennessee pitching coach Frank Anderson stormed the field and began to give the Alabama dugout a piece of his mind. The umpires responded by keeping Anderson at bay and eventually ejecting him.

And then Tony Vitello got involved.

Vitello marched towards third-base umpire Jeffrey Macias to argue while Anderson was in the thick of getting ejected, which riled up Vitello even more.

Vitello's words with Macias resulted in the Tennessee head coach getting tossed, much to Vitello's anger.

To date, my impression of Vitello was that he was ‘intense’. Now I’m beginning to think he may be cray cray.
