Below are our running stats against Auburn.
- Alabama had 38 runs
- Alabama had 34 non-sack/non-FG mishap/non-fumble snap runs
Of those 34 runs
- 6 were for 10+ yards (18%)
- 18 were for 5+ yards (53%)
- 22 were for 4+ yards (65%)
- 10 were for 0-2 yards (29%)
- 0 were for negative yards (0%)
That means on designed runs/scrambles Alabama averaged 6.6 YPC. If you take out Bo and Harris' two big runs of 21 and 31.......Alabama still averaged 5.4 YPC.

I think that the LSU game has been proven to be an aberration (or a case of LSU simply daring us to beat them downfield by outnumbering us in the box, which we did quite a bit of).
We have run the ball well against good run defenses all year. 5.6 YPC vs Auburn (give up 3.6 YPC avg), 4.1 YPC vs FSU (give up 3.9 YPC avg), 5.3 vs Miss State (give up 4.1 YPC avg).
Clemson gives up 3.2 YPC. We aren't going to run for 6 YPC, but we can certainly run the football. Their defense and specifically DL is VERY much like Auburn's.

I think Auburn and Clemson are very similar on defense.
Take the Iron Bowl take and look at what went wrong and what went right. Then feed Harris and Jacobs until the 4th quarter, then it's BO time against a tired defense.

AU has a very good dline, but Clemson’s is far and away the best in the country imo.

Clemson was scared to death of Bo last year. Feed that horse the ball early and late.

Clemson's D-line is better than Auburn's at both rush and pass defense, but they are similar. They are a very good but not elite rush defense. They are the elite pass rush unit (much like us last year).
If we get in 3rd and longs we will get pummeled. But I think we can run the ball on them if we don't panic.

What were our YPC against LSU
Clemson giving up 3.2 is impressive on paper but have to wonder the quality of defense they played against relative to SEC play. I have to think we have faced better. They held AU to 6 points which is pretty impressive.

Bo hasn't been the same. He seems to have to round out his runs out wide and can't cut the same. Save him for the second half and run the two Harris's hard in the first with Jacobs coming in for a few scripted plays.

3.3 YPC - and now that we've run on 2 pretty good rush defenses I think that can almost completely be attributed to a combination of LSU having healthy guys up front and them making a decision to overload the numbers up front and force us to throw the ball down the field.

Against the 5 best rush offenses they played here is how they performed relative to the opponents average vs FBS winning record teams (sorry I know that's a mouthful).
Team (YPC vs Clemson , YPC Average vs WR FBS Team)
- Louisville (4.30 , 6.00)
- Syracuse (3.24, 4.47)
- Georgia Tech (4.60, 4.91)
- NC State (4.50, 3.97)
- Miami (3.47, 6.10)
Overall : 3.95 vs Clemson, 5.09 average

That was our winning formula in the past.

Unfortunately, we have become what we used to make fun of: a soft, shotgun-based read option running game. We will abandon the run game at the earliest opportunity. Daboll just looks like Kiffin/Pussmeier with a beard. I'm not going to get my hopes up that we'll ever try to impose our will on an opponent.

The biggest issue with LSU was touch. There were a bunch of easy passes where the receiver got open or seperation and it was slightly overthrown or out of reach.

We have the best collection of running backs in the nation.
We have to run the baw!

They give me hope. There is no way that the coaches and players haven't been watching film of the Auburn game and realizing how atrocious the Offense was in that game. I think they get to work and come out with something to prove. I just hope crap like Calvin Ridley's drama doesn't have a negative effect on morale.

Maybe this is the game that makes Bo run like the bull he is. Bo and DH should have a heart full of hate heading into this game.

Yep but we also have to throw it enough to get rid of cheating safeties. Got to throw it when we drop back too.

Man, from what little I've seen I would love to see Robinson get some touches in the 4th if Bo struggles. I know it's a risk but I just love the way kid runs the ball.
