Then there’s the part where he says things like “this guy should have this guy”, as opposed to saying “the Playside Tackle (PST) is responsible for the “Big on Big” (BOB) side and allowed the 5-technique (tight aligned DE) to win by working up the field and converting speed to power…..that’s what he SHOULD be trying to do (provide true insights and analysis to help fans that actually have day jobs be able to learn what is taking place on the field).
Bro the average fan isn’t going to understand this. His videos are not for very knowledgeable fans that don’t have time to watch tape can learn. In this video he even says his videos are for fans that are football simpletons (like me) that enjoy watching tape breakdown . So yes it’s going to be really simplified but it’s not for people like you to watch

He picks out specific “narratives”. Some of them are popular/through the Press, like “Bama cannot run the ball” for example.
It was true last year and huge problem with the team’s struggles. So of course he’d focus on it. You’re not proving your “he’s a clown” argument that well

That’s my point.
I think I guy with his following that primarily consist of fans with days jobs but ARE interested in knowing more about the game than what they hear from talking heads, has a tremendous opportunity to be objective and point out things that dispel a lot of what fans have been made to believe.
Instead, he hops on the “Bama can’t run the ball” or the “KR mistakes as a young starter” train that everyone else is already talking about (or RW’s drops), and finds a dozen clips out of 140+ in a typical game, to prove how this narrative is true and try to look smart doing it.
Meanwhile, aside from showing RW’s loafing, the shite he is saying is from clips that lack context.
For example, he will use a FS double team on “Duo” where the PSG and Tackle are working to the 3-tech (DT) and the LB and the Guard will come off (as he should) but the DE will “spill” the BS pulling Guard which causes the RB to have to bounce (run around) the ball outside instead of it hitting in-between the Tackles, and say that’s “proof” that Bama’s OLine is getting their a** kicked.
I just don’t like guys like him who criticize and critique others when they dint have the credentials or more importantly the knowledge to do so.

I agree. And I don’t think he should say “Playside DE” (PSDE) or use “3-tech” or “5-tech” for that very reason. But HE should be the one that possesses the knowledge of what those positions/techniques are and what they are trying to accomplish.
Instead, he pulls clips of guys doing things right a lot of times and makes them look bad bc he’s not putting it into the proper context of what their job actually is.
Then just sprinkle some clips of RW’s dropping some passes and now he’s got every Bama fan lapping up everything he says.
I guarantee to you if/when Bama beats UGA, and moves to the top of the SEC, he will put out a video about how good the defense is and how he knows they are playing at such a high level, and then pull some clips of the run game and compare it (out of context) to last year and “show” everyone why things are so improved.
When in reality the defense has been doing this for over 2 years now but the 275lb DL CNS left CKW with, kept them being very good instead of great like they are now that they brought in bigger bodies/mass to fully transition to the 3-4 Under CKW has relied upon since the Vandy debacle.
Offensively, the run game is better bc they actually have RB’s that would’ve touched the field from 2008-2022, instead of the caliber of ball carriers they’ve had post Najee, Bijon and Gibbs.

Christian Miller breaks down film as well, and does a great job (Miller’s Edge, I believe it’s called). He doesn’t always use that type of verbiage, because he’s just explaining simple points: “X play broke because Y player likely missed this assignment”, that type of thing.
That sounds much preferable over the “Film Guy”

Yeah, a lot of football fans have knowledge of the game, but not coach-level knowledge. I moved to Alabama from another country and it’s still relatively new to me, so the coach type terminology confuses me as well
I totally understand that and that’s where 99% of the population is and should be (football will take years off your life and end it with your wife).
My point is that this guy has a large following apparently, and I watched a couple of his videos and aside from things that fans can see for themselves (drops and loads), the rest is stuff that he is incredibly wrong about the majority of the time.
Imo, it’s no different than taking what someone says out of context and using it to make it sound like they said something that they did not intend, and that is being deceitful imo.
The guy latches onto what the talking heads say is “the problem” or why things “are better” then using really good quality endzone shots (I will concede that), tries his best to find clips that prove the narrative is correct and then he has people assuming he is a savant.

I’m glad you enjoy it. We only live once. I do assume you must watch it frequently, out of curiosity, do his “breakdowns” follow the result in the game or does he pick specific things out and analyze them accordingly?
From the bit I watched, it’s basically piling on the teams that underperform and praising the teams that performed well that particular week. Does he basically do the same thing or no?

He played 5 years of D2 college ball as a guard/tackle. He's not like some of these other journalists/analysts who never played a down.

He isn't breaking film down for you or anyone else with football knowledge and experience. He's doing it for those who don't have much understanding and just say repeated phrases like "run da bawl", etc
He literally says as much. His target audience isn’t people with extensive or even solid football knowledge. It’s primarily for people who have never really played, let alone coached, so they can have a better understanding of what’s happening in a game. At the end of the day there’s a lot more people that DON’T know football on an intimate level than there are people that do. That is why he tries to speak in a way they can understand.
Clearly it’s working because he’s leveraged his start up YouTube film channel into guest spots on ESPN. You don’t have to agree with him, but he clearly has the right formula and many people seem to like him.

Until somewhat recently, I used to breakdown the playbacks of the games in depth when I was looking for the issues of what was going on (failures) in Alabama games. I took a great deal of time and I had the time in hotel rooms while traveling. Three things happened that ended those efforts for me.
1 - I do not travel as much anymore and taking that time when I am home is not a good use of what time I have.
2 - I found "The Film Guy" online a couple of years ago. As it turns out, He does a very good job of breaking down game film (from an O-line perspective) so I was happy to let him take that time instead of me doing it.
3 - I do not have his patience in dealing with people who just want to argue with no idea what they are talking about.
In the end, I spend my time diferently now than I did a couple of years back. Priorities are important.

What are your thoughts on this year's Oline and what we've seen so far this year in terms of scheme?
Posted on 9/15/26 at 5:45 pm to FightingOkra
Im not saying I hate the guy personally, I don’t even know his name.
If people enjoy watching then that’s a good thing and people should do what makes them happy.
Maybe I’ll go back and take a look at a couple of them that focus on schematics and not loafs or drops etc, and see what I’m missing.
My biggest thing was him using clips of Bama’s run game to demonstrate how terrible they are, and the clips he was using were either showing a Center trying to block back on a 3-tech which is a looong ways to go, and I thought Brailsford actually a good job at not allowing it to turn into a negative play (which it commonly does), but in order to make that “block” you have to give ground intentionally and take a deeper path (like a backside hinge almost), and this was used as “proof” that Bama was allowing penetration by the Dline (I forget the opponent) but it came out right when people/sportswriters were taking notice of Bama’s run game struggles.
That was one of an out five or more clips that I saw that he did the same type of thing with, and “yes” it does make it look bad if you don’t know exactly what you are seeing for yourself.
I dismissed him for “piling on” the criticism since that was the popular thing to do last year with Bama’s running game.
There were certainly plenty of clips that legitimately demonstrated the issues that he could have chosen to use in order to inform people of what exactly the OLine was struggling to do correctly on a consistent basis.

I mean, it was the worst rushing offense in the history of a program that has always prided itself on running the ball. It's very reasonable for someone whose "business" is film review to try to illustrate why they were so bad. I don't think that's really piling on. Reasonable minds can obviously differ as to the specific reasons why, but it's undeniable that our run game was pure shite last season.

Seems like you didn’t even watch the clip. He doesn’t sound like he’s piling on. He sounds more like he’s explaining why we’re seeing improvements + there’s more good to be had
You are entirely too bothered by this guy’s success. You seem bitter af imo

One schematic concern...when Alabama faces a team with a film nerd that has get-up like Jireh Edwards (thankfully not many of them around) the kid will hop in the backpocket of our pulling guards who will take him to the ball carrier in the backfield.
