Help me to sort all this out. Was Cignetti a great coach who found a way to beat the big money rosters with less, or did he just have the most expensive roster out there? I forget.

Indiana had 47 players on the roster who were between ages 22-27. I would say it had a lot of experience, a lot transferred from his previous job.

Indiana spent about as much as Alabama last season. Having veteran teams and injury luck is the key in this era. That is what we learned from their winning big in 2025. Everything else is just white noise and agenda.

Growing up hearing bedtime stories about Bear Bryant and then getting to expeirence the whole Saban era.... it feels surreally aware that we're likely in another transition period.
I hope I'm wrong and that KDB can build a monster again, but I feel like football gods aren't going to bestow us another Golden Era for another generation or so, wouldn't be fair to everyone else, haha. Again, I'd love to be wrong.
With a 12 team playoff now, hell anything is possible.
Crazy fact, if there was a 12 team playoff before Nick, Mike Friggin Shula would have just narrowly missed a spot in 2005..... and Dennis Franchione would have had us dancing in 2002 if not for probation.

So, what we see is that Cignetti overcame and beat the wealthiest teams in the country with the worst program in history. Didn't need Ohio State, Texas, and Miami money. Just went out and dominated with a bunch of no-names who had guts and desire.
All I am saying is, I would hate to be in a tough place with about 2/3 of the people on this board. Whether it be a firefight, a business challenge, or a late game drive. Obstacles are to be challenged and overcome.
The tide is going to shift. Innovation will figure out how to beat money. Too much reliance on money makes people and institutions weak.

Well, I’ve been on the gravy train for most of 70 years. Old habits are hard to break.
I will keep my seat for now as it seems things are looking up. Keelon Russell appears to have very special talents, as well as being a very special person. Mr. Grubb said that Keelon just had a knack for ALWAYS MAKING THE RIGHT DECISION of if, when and where to throw the football.
Also, Coach DeBoer seems to be the best man for the job from both a strategic and tactical perspective, even if he doesn’t articulate it well. We’ll see within a couple of years.

And Indiana also benefits from a pillow soft schedule. This decreases injuries and wear on players. Like Ohio St, Indiana has 2-3 big games per year to worry about, the rest of the schedule is just showing up essentially

I still miss getting the physical season tickets delivered by FedEx around this time every year.
It was exciting holding the entire season in your hands lol...digital delivery saved them some bucks, but it's definitely not the same.
Just another small way they're killing what made college football special.
