“Texas by more than a touchdown. … I think the ‘Bama offense scuffles. I think we throw it all over ’em. … I don’t think I would have that same opinion of a Nick Saban coached team on Nov. 18, but I think it’s early and that’s where I’m going with it. Because I think we’ve got it circled.”

We have written extensively on why Texas should win this game. While we’re not predicting a blowout victory, it’s certainly in the cards. The Longhorns are the better team. We will see if they can put a strong performance together in early September.

They think theyre playing Kansas State or Okie State...they didn't learn anything last year when they couldn't get it done at home. They think we don't have a big home game circled?

This ain't Austin and we don't give a damn about any Eyes of Texas. I don't think this is going to be the cakewalk those clowns think and I don't think they line up and just dominate like they think either.

There's one up now. They believe they will come into Bryant Denny run up and down the field and embarrass us.

One twit says we should be getting 3.5

I'm a Texas person.

They don't feel this way as a collective.

It's a fair fan based assessment.

Like many of these big build up games under Saban, I think it's a one score decision win or lose, or a Bama blow out win.

Saban has just proven enough to not be considered a tough out for any team, especially at home

We need to be honest with ourselves. We had major systemic problems in 2022 and were nowhere close to dominate in many areas. We didn’t blow teams out because we were deeply flawed.

-The OL has to be able to run block effectively. Bama isn’t Bama if it can’t run the ball consistently.
-Can the front 7 establish dominance at the LOS? Last year after some injuries up front it simply wasn’t a physically imposing DL group and the LB play was flat out suspect either due to scheme or personnel issues.
-Do we have a championship level QB?
-What in the world is happening with our WR group? They have to eliminate the drops and demonstrate we can get separation because last year that group was ineffective at times. Scheme? Personnel? Either way has to be fixed.

That’s a lot of questions, but the potential is certainly there to be a championship team.

I think we will be better up front, certainly run blocking and with the backs Bama has if Milroe is the QB the ground game could be as good as anyones.

Look our QB won't be Bryce Young. We knew that starting last season for goodness sake. All I want to see is competence out of our QB's and receivers. Enough to keep safeties from cheating down to stop the run.

Our kicker is as good as there is and our punter is good.

Defensively Bama should be able to get after the passer . I thought our ILB play was putrid at times so it can only go uphillIMO I hope we are better at stopping the run and I believe the secondary ill be fine..Texas is supposed to have receivers everywhere and a solid QB so that will be a real test.

But the biggest improvement is..NO MORE THIRD AND GOLDING!

If we are disciplined, we win. We have to be disciplined though.

Does Texas have star players at defensive end and linebacker? I want to know who will line up againt our left tackle.

I assume so. They have stars all over the field but they’re not disciplined from what I hear. We just gotta keep cool heads.

if sports boards full of hyper fans were an accurate representation of the average fan, stadiums would burn down regularly.

If we can run on Texas and splash Milroe in with runs, we will beat them into oblivion. I’m talking to the tune of 40. Especially if they sell their soul to stop the run and we throw a few deep ones.

Id say something along the lines of a QB capable of scoring 35 points or more in the playoffs given a high level offense around him. History shows you can’t win a championship game in playoff era CFB if you can’t get into that range.

Data wise maybe it would look like:
>60% passer
QBR needs to be >150
at least 250 yards of total offense (pass + rush) against P5 teams per game
2:1 TD to INT ratio or better

Going back briefly through the CFP scores I’m not sure there is a team that didn’t have a QB who met that criteria and most of them have had 1st rd NFL or AA guys at QB to make it to that level.

I’m open to better set of objective measures but mediocre QB play doesn’t win championships anymore.

I’d probably say a QBR > 140

Also in 7 of the 9 championship games in the playoff era the first team to 26 won, so I don’t know that you necessarily have to get to 35, but I admit I’d prefer being able to score that much lol

The average score for the winner is much higher than that so I hear you, but if you run into an ultra elite offense 26 ain’t gonna cut it period.

Based on what you’ve seen at the scrimmage/heard, do you really think the defense will hold UTx under 21 pts? Even if the offense is clicking, I have a hard time seeing us put up 60ish points.

I’d love for this one to end up playing out like the USC opener in ‘16. I was hoping we’d beat the brakes of off them last year at their place.

I go based on the average score of the loser. Anything over 26pts was irrelevant in the last 5 games because there was one team in each that couldn’t manage to get to it
