Takeways from the game

1. Awesome to see the offense get going. Cannot for the life of me understand the consistent slow starts but the run and pass were cooking in the last couple of quarters. Obviously gotta keep in mind how horrific FSU is in the secondary and their lack of depth, but those guys were really good in the first half so they had talent.
2. Man the defense. Hate to see it. I really thought they could be elite this year, and maybe they can, but they just got absolutely shredded. And FSU is not going to be a very good offense this year. Seemed to be so much confusion and mixing up due to the substitutions we did. 0 and 32 are elite. Did a good job against 32 after the first, but the coverage really never got much better. 2 was great in the 4th. 5, 3, and 18 need to be more impactful,
3. Going forward you just have to expect one possession games. I am pretty worried defensively the next 2 weeks against Sellers and Taylor. I think they will play better next week but pretty concerned about them tackling and covering in 2 weeks.
Ultimately right now I am going to try and level my expectations. I got a little too hyped last week after looking dominant against Kentucky. It really sucks that Deboer and the staff cant seem to have these guys ready to go in these type of games. Lets see where they go from here.

Offense is gonna be really good once we stop commiting dumb penalties. We can run the ball and Keelon is growing.

It’s literally just Johnny Manziel and Mike Evan’s all over again. Dual threat QB with a big fat arse WR that’s 80 pounds bigger and a foot taller than your whole secondary. If your o line can hold up for just as long as you need to get the ball out.
These senior QBs that have been around and don’t care about the rush and will just toss like they don’t have a care in the world are the ones that concern me. It’s why I’m more worried about the SCAR game than the MSU game.

They've got to cut the slow starts out on offense. It's eventually going to come back and bite them in a big way. Defense didn't play well, but it was 1 game. Grubb has shown a pattern of starting slow so I don't have much confidence it gets fixed. I think that's just who he is. It sucks to say that, but it's the truth.

Clearly the score indicates this game shouldn't have been close but most of this game absolutely felt close. I'm tired of it

Kentucky just went into College Station and kicked Aggy's arse. They might not be bad. Even if they are it just goes to show that there is massive parity in CFB right now. I mean FSU is not a good team and they came within a hair of two top 25 wins. It's hard nearly every week now.
ETA: within a hair is probably a stretch, but you get my point.

The other team is trying their best too. Norvell was coaching for his job. Plus FSU was coming off a bye.
In the long run we were clearly the better team. But some of our fans cant handle being behind on the scoreboard.

The fact that FSU had 2 weeks to prepare should be emphasized a bit more. But yeah, first half was largely disappointing. Glad they can actually ADJUST effectively. In 2024 I don’t know if we come back and win this game.

Also, UK is better than anybody thought. That dude 94 is a beast.
I guess we are going to #8 but we have a pretty decent resume so far.

Like what? The other team scores 21 first quater points? I mean, we took about as solid a shot as a team can take and still won.
It was really the defense that let us down tonight.

I agree with you.
Bama put Z Brown and D Lee on him and also had Sabb help to his side but he just out-muscled them on jump balls repeatedly.
Yet again, the run defense was fantastic and put lots of pressure on the QB. Not many teams will complete just 14 passes and get 330 yards out of it by out-jumping Z Brown and D Lee.
I would be concerned if FSU ran for 250 on 7ypc, but that’s not the case.
I predict that not another opponent will put 30+ on Bama’s D this season.
Also, my $1800 on KR’s 50-1 odds to make it to New York aren’t looking too terrible at the moment

This team is hard to gauge. I’m hoping as they play together the starts to games will get better. They better start games better when we play teams like Georgia, Mississippi State, LSU, A&M and Auburn.

Alabama got to clean up their technique in man coverage. The getting out jumped deep is one thing, consistently letting him get his body position on slants is tough to see. Zabien Brown made a helluva play on that slant look when they absolutely needed it though. Got the inside leverage didn't let 0 put his body between the corner and ball.

The defense no doubt let them down today. But, that is usually not that common. In fact, the defense has been one of DeBoer's bright spots.
What does seem to be a common occurrence is coming out on offense and looking like they have never played football before. Penalties, bad playcalling, confusion, etc. This falls back on Grubb. You absolutely can't do that against top teams, otherwise the game is going to get ugly.

They focused their game plan on him but, yep, other guys were winning the cut into a slant big time and our defenders were basically playing for the tackle not the pass defense nearly every time.

My take away, this shite is just like nfl games now and more than ever it’s an any given Sunday type of game. Not sure my ole heart or stomach can handle it

It was basically FSU vs Lee for most of the passes and the blunder run they got with 1600 missed tackles.

#5/#3/#18/#6 do not have the foot speed or agilitry for man-2-man vs good WR's
FSU scheemed their best WR to be man-2-man with #5 and made him look bad in the 1st half The FSU front 7 was prepped to take away theAlabama inside zone / duo / pin-and-pull game with interior slants and twists.
After the second lightening stoppage, Klem and Grubb adjusted the run target to OT hip rather than OG hip to use the OT's as the anchor and TE's as the wash.
After the lightening break, KW adjusted his call to help #5 a little more and use #2 to manage their #0.
The 1st half was very good prep by FSU. The second half was good adjustment by the UA staff.
That is my initial take on what happened. I will be currious to see if the film bloggers confirm what I think I saw.
