Only hope is USC be dumb enough to hire him.

And that was dumb bc they obviously weren't coming to Bama.

Neither was Kirby. So what’s your point? We should have hired Cignetti from JMU? Cristobal who had never proven to be a competent HC?

Is it too much to ask an AD to do research and make a proper hire? Why is the strategy to pay Saban money for a coach that never won a title?

It’s not, but there are a lot of coaches out there making Saban money who’ve never won anything. It’s called the market rate.

At the time DeBoer seemed like a perfectly reasonable and strong hire. Who were you hoping they’d have brought in back then?

I wanted Jim Leonhard. He's obviously great at defense and understands the importance of running game. Vince Kehres is another up and comer. He comes from a strong background.

Please don't be prejudiced against assistant coaches, these guys have to start somewhere.

Bingo

Yesterday was just a good scrimmage for IU. They whipped our azz at the LOS over and over.

Dan Lanning, Kirby Smart and Ryan Day had no HC experience when they were hired.

And Jeremy Pruitt, Mike Dubose, Will Muschamp, Sam Pittman and Mike Shula had no experience either. It's too big of a gamble and Schuman isn't even an elite DC.

Personally, I’d prefer a guy with HC experience but fact is, there are no good ones out there that haven’t just signed with other schools or just signed an extension.

This I totally agree with. Which is why it's probably best to wait another year or two as much as it pains me to say it.

It's a real shame the Texans are doing so well because DeMeco is the one guy I'd love to have as our HC.

Don’t really have a choice in the matter. Can’t afford the buyout right now. For better or worse, we’re stuck with CKD for probably two more years.

He would absolutely culture shock our problem and beat them into submission. I’d love it.

Would be nice to get Pruitt back on staff. He knows what it takes to win at BAMA.

Should be the number one impetus in the offseason.

Kirby (and now Cignetti) for some time, proved that old school fundamentals win more times than not.

Seems we lost our way for a bit around the time Tua came in (not that you could ever refuse him playing QB for your team). We had talent stockpiled for 2020 and just won because of that and Nick Saban's vision for getting through the Covid noise and other BS -- but around this time we started playing soft while thinking we were more finesse.

Now, Cignetti is continuing hard-nosed football and I'll be damned if he doesn't have Indiana playing like 2012 Bama. This is the way. Not the Mickey Mouse BS we've gotten deeper into over the years.

The casual fan thinks we have some billionaire alums like Phil Knight and Greg Byrne can simply pass the hat and come up with that money. Fact is, we have no billionaire alums.

You know one thing I've thought before, is the University would be very smart to start a significant fund for venture investing into students and recent grads' startups. Funding would come with a commitment to donate some percentage or sliding scale amount back to the University/Athletics.

Try to bootstrap our way into our own Phil Knight.

but the reality is UA cannot afford to fire him. His buy out is gigantic

90% of his buyout is also paid in monthly installments through 2031. The university absolutely can afford that.

Here's one place where Byrne should be held accountable: the buyout isn't mitigated by future salaries. The next coach, that needs to be corrected.

Bryne made a pint to hire someone who's not Saban. These playoffs all have ex Saban assistants. Deboer is soft.

I mean, on paper, Deboer was a homerun hire and even had a winning record against one of those coaches. He's won at every stop, took a Washington team that hasn't won shite since Peterson to the playoffs in year 2, beat a coach that embarrassed Saban at BDS and was undefeated against all of the so called "elite" coaches at the time (Lanning, Sark and Riley) Byrne went after the biggest and seemingly best name available and got him.

He still could be that. Even Nick Saban couldn't win a championship with Milroe and Ty Simpson.

He is young as well. We just need him to show he is growing and adapting.. not being stubborn. If he learns from these failures we may be a monster the next 5 years.

We shall see in these next 15 days if he has learned anything. If this staff returns for 2026 then he has learned nothing.
