Should Alabama stoke the Dabo fires for recruiting?

EDIT: Before you read the following post, know that it is less about Dabo and more about recruiting in general. I do not care if Dabo ever coaches a game at Alabama.

Not overtly, but cleverly let it be implied that Dabo is probably already the next guy.

We know that Kirby and others are negatively recruiting Bama by throwing around Saban's age. Up until this point, the standard answer has been "Saban's not going anywhere soon."

While I hope it's true, would it be the worst thing for recruits to have it in the back of their minds that even if Saban retires, there's another legendary coach waiting in the wings?

To that end, we should honor every team Dabo was ever affiliated with at Bama. Get him down here and around the program as much as possible, even if he never actually coaches a game for us.

Alabama kisses no one's arse.

The key to continuing success after Saban does not hinge on anything to do with Dabo Swinney, and I think the chances of him being our coach in the future are decreasing rapidly.

However, the key to continuing success after Saban is having a strong AD who communicates well throughout a transition from Saban to the best possible coach we can hire. Dabo might be on that list when the time comes. But the list will have several other names on it, and his might not be at the top.

No, because there is almost zero chance that Dabo will ever be the HC at Bama.

That's not the point. It's not about if Dabo ever really becomes the coach, nor is it about kissing up to him, it's about the perception that Alabama is going to be fine without Saban.

It really has nothing to do with Dabo at all, it's all about recruiting and combatting the negative recruiting going on right now by Kirby, specifically.

No one said anything about success after Saban, I'm talking about recruiting success right now.

I'm confident that the current administration will go get the best guy whether that's Dabo or whoever. That's not, and was never, my point.

How is recruiting going right now? Are we top 5 or #25?

Not sure I'd bet the farm on Dabo not replacing Saban...

In my opinion, Saban has yet to sign a player whose eligibility will outlast his career. He's probably a few years from doing that.

Dabo is doing his damndest to alienate himself from Alabama and the fans by his snarky comments.

There was a time when Dabo would have crawled through broken glass for the job in Tuscaloosa but he's not stupid. Could it be that he's realized that whoever follows CNS, no matter what they do, it won't be good enough? Maybe he's decided that he's cemented a spot at Clemson for as long as he wants it, making top dollar in an easier job in an easier conference. Maybe the grass ain't greener anymore. Who knows?

So in order to improve Alabama recruiting, you want to pump up Clemsons HC?

Have you looked at recruiting ranks lately?

Gosh no.

I have looked at the recruiting rankings lately, that's why I brought it up. Kirby is going in hard on Saban retiring soon. He's telling kids that the program is going to be thrown into chaos that'll take years to get over. I know we're still doing great recruiting right now, but it's only going to get more difficult the older Saban gets - especially if he wins another title.

This has nothing to do with Dabo, outside of the fact that the rumors are already there and he's the next best coach right now. It's not pumping him up, in fact, it could negatively impact his recruiting if you played it right.

The Dabo ship sailed earlier this year.

Prior to 2015, he would have crawled across hot coals for the Alabama job.

After facing off with Alabama 3 times in a row in the playoffs in 2015, 2016, and 2017, I believe he could have been convinced if "mama called." He delivered Clemson its national title, but was still 1-2 against the motherland.

After winning his 2nd national championship in 2018 and drawing even with Saban at 2-2, he is there for good, I'm afraid.

At Alabama, there is Saban and there is Bryant. Dabo probably grew up dreaming about becoming a name like that. And unfortunately, it looks like he accomplished that goal -- but at Clemson. He will get his statue there, deservedly so, and I expect him to be a Bobby Bowden lifer.

I still can't believe you are suggesting that we lie to recruits.

Not going to down vote you but I will say the answer is No. Kids can often read thru a line of BS when they hear it. They Are likely being recruited by Clemson and Dabo as well and they will no doubt bring it up. I say we continue to sell to the kids what we have to offer and don't worry about having to "pull the wool" over a kids eyes to convince him to come to UA.
