Then he must've taken a nap during halftime. We came out deader than Kelsey's nuts every 3rd quarter this season.

Maybe so, maybe not. The PAC Whatever is adding teams and Phil Knight actually donates a lot to Oregon State as well. Any team can be turned to an 8-4/9-3 type team with good coaching and then you’re on to greener pastures.
UAB was literally dead and Bill Clark had them winning. UConn was an independent door mat and Mora turned it around and took a new gig.

Surely there was a serious program out there willing to let him call plays and position himself for legit HC opportunities.
Agreed that this would have been the career path most likely to lead to long term success.

Yeah I mean I know a lot of these guys dream of getting their own program to run, but this is just a terrible career move. When you look at financial resources, facilities, recruiting pool, conference standing, etc. Oregon State in 2025 is probably a bottom 5 job in FBS. Surely there was a serious program out there willing to let him call plays and position himself for legit HC opportunities.
Bottom 5? I would not say so. I feel like Akron, UAB, etc. got that on lock.
Oregon State is probably more akin to Boise State now though. They can't trade on association with traditional Pacific Coast athletics powers. The Pac-12 is just the MWC's best schools wearing the skin of the Pac-12.

Positive is that he may be a good hire for DeBoer in 4-5 years assuming everything is humming here.

It also can be good to get assistants hired like this. Every assistant coach in America wanted to work for Saban because they kept getting HC jobs. If you’re a hot young assistant and you see our WR coach just got a HC job and our DC and OC are both pursued for others then this is a place you want to come build your resume.

There’s at least chatter that UW might be interested if/when Fisch leaves because he hates Seattle

I was offering Oregon State either or both of Sheridan and Kap, and they turn around and do this? What a betrayal.

Statement from JaMarcus Shephard: “I'm honored to lead the Oregon State University football program and to join a community that cares so deeply about its student-athletes. We will build a culture rooted in toughness, integrity, and relentless effort, and I'm excited to get to work with our players, staff, and supporters to write the next great chapter of Beaver football."

I disagree. To go from position coach to head coach is huge for him. If he goes 4-20 in 2 years and gets canned he’ll go back to where he was before.

Pretty much. Go earn yourself a $12-15 million payday and if it doesn’t work out at least you’ve made a nice chunk of money.

Curious what Cortez Hankton does when LSU hires a new HC. They should absolutely retain him, but door is always open to leave during a coaching change.

Is Shepard coaching anymore for us or is he gone as of today? Like is he coaching tomorrow, SEC title game, etc?
I can’t find that mentioned in any stories.
