We were his 2nd FBS offer. He only became a 4* later in the year

It was Bama and Oklahoma, I think?

No Oklahoma State. Even OU didn’t offer him

As I recall it was a high school coach that contacted Jeremy Pruitt and told him to take look at the kid,

Josh Jacobs may be the most under-used and under-rated RB

No doubt about that. Harris should’ve been getting clean up duty instead of critical touches.

Mr. Terry is a successful entrepreneur as far as I know, but that rating was not given until it became public that Alabama had offered. He was a 3 star prior.

IMO, Saban’s point is clear and correct.

They get much of their info from coaches and seeing who offers who. That’s why the Jacobs’ rating changed. Coaches sometimes manipulate the services to further their own ends. I have little inside info, but i do know this. Not only that, but even the best coaching evaluators miss frequently, how much more the recruiting services who inject their own evaluations into the rating.

In aggregate i would rather have a potful of 5 stars over a potful of lesser rated players, but when comparing any two specific individuals, you just never know.

Couldn’t have been said about a bigger a-hole. Your move, Damien.

If you were a CFB HC, at least before the portal stuff, and were given the top 25 recruits every year according to Rivals, I suspect you would do well.

Recruiting isn’t nearly as much about identifying that the 6’0” 225 lb. RB who runs a 4.3 40 and bench presses the weight room might be a good college football player as it is making sure his arse ends up on your roster.

Not sure he was underutilized:

“wrapped up 2018 tied for the team lead in all-purpose yards with 1,315 to average 87.7 yards per game ... ranked second on the Tide in scoring with 90 points ... rushed 120 times for 640 yards and a team-high 11 scores while catching 20 passes for 247 yards and three touchdowns ... 50 of his rushes as a junior went for a first down or score while 14 of his reception led to a Tide touchdown or first down ... added 14 kickoff returns for 428 yards with one score of 77 yards ... his 30.6 yards per return average led the SEC and was second in the FBS, a big part of the Tide’s 23.5 average return on kickoffs that ranked 19th nationally”

He wasn't. 99 touches as a freshman is a ton of work for his first year. He played most of his sophomore year with a broken ankle. And then 140 touches his junior year basically splitting playing time with Damien. Saying he should have gotten the lion's share of the work his last season over Damien is revisionist history because people don't like how Damien has spoken about the program recently. Harris averaged 6.3 ypc in his career at Bama. He and Josh basically splitting carries their last year kept them both fresh and effective.

He was very under-utilized. Fairly common knowledge when it was taking place.

It’s an inexact science no matter who is doing the evaluating.

First round draft picks bust all the time in spite of the best football guys in the world evaluating them in a college league with 1) far fewer players to evaluate than high school 2) better competition to measure players against than high school 3) no time wasted actually recruiting the players. You just evaluate and pick.

In the “old days,” recruiting success was less about determining if the 6’0” 225 lb. RB who has thighs like Earl Campbell and moves like Reggie Bush can play - but whether or not you can get him on your team in spite of everyone else who wants him too.
