Whether or not they were recruited by Hurley/Oats, Oats made them into top 25 team caliber players.

Yeah, exactly. That's pretty much what I was trying to convey

I have gone from cautiously optimistic to optimistic.

Will be exciting to move on to irrational summer optimism about how improved each guy will be.

I suspect Oats' history as a lunch pail high school coach greatly increases the odds that Bucky lands on the staff.

Oats basically was Detroit Bucky 6 years ago before Hurley gave him his big break.

Im telling yall if Nate can get Kira and Petty out of the portal we can contend THIS YEAR!!

Kira,Petty,Mack,Reese all have the ability to shoot. And thats not counting the recruits and potentially Watford.

It would be surprising if he brings his entire staff, since they have no connections in the South-especially Alabama.

He was a point guard in college,a positive for Kira, though he may become a SG.

I like that Oats has a strict coaching
philosophy, like Saban and we won't be flying by seat of our pants every game.

I just hope he can keep our recruiting class and get Watford, keep Kira. Don't want to waste years building the program again. No patience anymore.

Contend for what?

We'll have guys running a totally new scheme with a totally new mindset of how to play the game. It's not gonna flip overnight. Not to mention, it sounds like Oats doesn't put up with bullshite, and our guys have a LOT of bullshite built up.

It'd be cool to have a nice year next year, but I'm not counting on it. That's not how these things generally work. We do have some interesting pieces for him to use, though, if they come back.

I'd be shocked if they left.

That is why it is never going to make sense to say Hurley's players. That is a lazy argument and I understand some are trolling. I care more about development than recruiting anyway.

Okay. I’m fine now. Just took me a second to get over that blow to the balls when my top target was reported as the hire only to not be.

When it came to the mid-major targets (pretty much my top choices outside of the homerun hires like Beard, Matta, Sampson, etc), Forbes slightly outranked Oats for me. My only concern with Oats was it was a little difficult to see if it was him or Hurley who truly got the program turned around. After hearing from the Buffalo fan that seems to know what he’s talking about, it looks like it may have been Oats all along. Here’s to hoping he’s the next Brad Stevens.

We need a coach that can cut down on turnovers. So many games we were right in the game and had game changing turnovers. Give him a chance.

Turnovers were due to laziness imo. If he is what the articles say we will be ok.
