Remember Saban saying that when you sign a kid, you have to then start de-recruiting him?

I remember. Good times.

Now when you get a kid on campus, you have to recruit even harder to get him to stay.

The NCAA needs to return to a policy where a scholarship is a 3 year binding agreement. Absolutely nothing about that would inhibit a kid's ability to make as much NIL money as he can while he is on your roster.

LSU fans are loving this. Just wait what happens if Kelly goes to Michigan.

Imagine this scenario....

Harbaugh to NFL
Kelly to Michigan
X Coach to LSU

Our roster maybe completely different by the Fall. I'd much rather be in the position we are now than in a potential LSU situation.

College football still had some degree of character building a few years ago if the coach really cared. Many of Saban's former players have talked about how he was the first person to impose real discipline on them after everyone fawned on them in high school. The issue now is that you can't really discipline them in this new era for fear of the portal, so these guys are going to continue having their egos go unchecked. That aspect of this will ultimately be a disservice to everyone, including the players themselves.

Pretty simple fix here. Needs to be legal binding contracts when these kids accept these huge payments

Well shite, that explains a lot. If we are de-recruiting everyone no wonder they are all leaving.

*Edit @ Sauron

Yeah, I got it, just under the circumstances it felt like a timely joke because it does indeed feel as though we are de-recruiting everyone.

Hey, all there is left to do at this point is laugh.

I don't think you understand the intent of the statement.

When you're recruiting a player, you're one of a group of coaches telling him he's fantastic, he's a great player, and is an important part of your future plans.

When he's on campus, you have to reign in the sense of entitlement the player got while he was being recruited. You have to successfully manage his expectations while encouraging him to do the work needed to get on the field -- work that he may not have realized was going to be as difficult as it is. He was accustomed to being the big man on campus during high school; now he's just one of 85 elite athletes, many of whom were more highly regarded than he was.
