Why would Marshall be crazy to come to Alabama? Talent level Second fiddle to football If I was an elite coach there is no way I would come to Alabama.

It takes what Bill Battle is doing to change the culture. Changing the culture is important for everyone who loves the Tide. Are the six national championships won by Sarah Patterson overshadowed by football? What about the two men's golfing national titles by Jay Seawell? What about the women's golf team? How about Patrick Murphy bringing the first softball national title to the SEC? You have to build something by beginning somewhere and Marshall can do that. If he says no, it's okay, we will get the next best man available.

Tell that to Mike Brey, Thad Matta, Billy Donovan, etc.

Totally agree. I hope we land him I just wouldn't pick Alabama over a "basketball school" if all other things are equal.

I would love to see us bring the basketball program up and it looks like we are trying. Pretty exciting but I have serious doubts that we land Marshall.

Luckily for us, he's from the south. And there aren't many legit basketball schools in the South. The main two, Duke/UNC will most certainly hire from within their family. The only other, Kentucky, will only be available if Cal leaves for the NBA.

I think that's a bigger deal than most realize. He's from South Carolina and probably wants to be back in this part of the country. He's just not going to do it for any job, but its a factor.

I'm really screwed today. Work was canceled last minute this morning. So now I'm bored as hell in a hotel room, working out of town, with nothing to do but watch roku, smoke hash, and click refresh. It's gonna be a very long day. I guess the bright side is at least I'm getting a good per diem.

I was lurking and then decided to register so I could ask a question. I was banned for "no reason given" with a ban lift scheduled for "never" before I could even post.

I registered under the name Bamasgot13, not BamasgonnagetGregg

Alright, it's gone. I'm not trying to get guys in trouble at work.

Besides, I'm old school. I like to wait until 1am and turn on cinemax.

Making my best educated guess. It seems like the type of guy Marshall is. There was speculation before the meeting with Battle that he might visit before making a decision. Years ago, Marshall accepted the College of Charleston job and then turned it down after driving back to Winthrop. Every interview he gives on the matter speaks to how much his family loves Wichita and it sounds like they are a factor here. Marshall is holding all of the cards and can dictate how this process goes.

Couple all of that with hearing no news from either side since that meeting yesterday and its easy to come to the conclusion that there is another step in this process. If the decision had been made on either side, we'd be hearing about it now.

A lot of Shockers wanted to point to UCLA as the reason why he won't come here. Yeah, they have a significantly better tradition, and are in a great recruiting area. But how many guys from South Carolina want to live in the heart of Los Angeles? I'm not sure I'd want my daughter, who's going into high school, to grow up in that kind of culture and environment. Tuscaloosa is a good place for a good ol'boy to raise his family, and stack some cheese.

Well bless his heart...

quote:

MM probably just read that the Alabama AD came to WSU and thought it meant more than it did. He doesn't realize there is no chance Marshall is going to Alabama and the Texas heat is cooling off, he's going on rumors like some here are but not on faith in Marshall

Marshall thinks like his fans do. Thats why he hit it off in Wichita so well in addition to the winning. That's how you know he is staying.

Not that we're guaranteed to land him. But the "we even think alike" comments come out, I can't help but laugh.

Parrish has said that GM would have taken the UCLA job if they had just waited for his tournament run to end.

Crazy how much of this can be decided on timing.

Seth Davis is reporting there have been no talks between Texas and Shaka Smart, adding he's "not sensing any momentum."
