I think on the OL id rather get guys coming from the smaller schools that have played well as opposed to guys coming from big schools that havent played.

Haywood is a different story because he is still a young player. Players leaving big programs because of a coaching change is always a good opportunity to find some studs.

I posted this the other day. You see these guys coming from smaller programs that had no stars or ranked coming out of HS and now they are at least a 3 star in the portal versus a guy 4 or 5 star coming out of HS and that has lowered. That now 3 star guy has worked his butt off and is hungry and will also not command as much with NIL. The rating system is based off of potential coming out of HS where in the transfer portal it is based off of actual production of what the player did in college.

Has to be the hardest position to evaluate coming out of high school. Seems like it's the position group we missed on the most 4 and 5 stars. So it makes sense to focus on the portal there and proven players at any level to build an OL. Probably where you see the biggest difference from a 18-19 year old and a 22-23 year old.

Yep. Give me all the FCS IOL with a few years of starting behind them. Look at what Indiana is doing with those grown arse men.

Pierre coming back is one of the biggest new stories of the portal season.

He legitimately has a AA ceiling off the edge and knows the system, the only guy on that level in the portal is Wilson and he has some red flags IMO.

Remaining Needs on D:
-LT Overton replacement
-Veteran ILB who can contribute immediately
-LB and DL depth

Some smoke that Dottery will be coming to Alabama too. An LSU fan I've known for years just randomly mentioned it yesterday to me.

Keeping Pierre better than signing Wilson in my opinion. Pierre knows the coaches, the players, and the system. We don't have to worry about interpersonal issues or integration problems within the scheme.

Plus if we do in fact land Dottery, I think we have two starter caliber LBs in Dottery and Woodson.

The SDE depth issue is concerning. Hoping we can find someone there. We really want someone who can set the edge well against the run but has some pass rush ability. I don't think we're about to get someone like JJ Watt there but I think that skill set is a bit more plentiful than finding twitchy edge guys like Pierre.

I know I sound like a broken record but we DESPERATELY need good interior DL that can either start from Day One or at least play a lot. Need an upgrade at that position.

I think the staff feels like getting Beaman back is like picking a starter caliber IDL from the portal. Thompkins from SoCal is clearly our new 3 tech DT.

You don't think Alabama did some of this? Maybe? Perhaps even once during Saban?

Isn't this the guy who got booted from Clemson for taking pics of teammates in the shower?

He changed his last name after being dismissed...

6'1 218 so hes almost a clone for Deonte Lawson.

I think he made all the calls for the Rebels last year so he would be a major addition from a talent and experience standpoint.

Handcuff him to a radiator until the portal closes. Tape the handcuff key to the letter of intent.

I hope Beaman can come back to 100% but it’s a real crap shoot for a guy with a blown out knee. He may come back strong this Fall or he may be a shell of his former self. Who knows?

Even if he comes back 100%, we need difference makers on the DL. Currently, we have NO ONE who is a dominant DE/DT type. I’m sorry but we don’t.

I know some posters will be butt hurt by me saying that but it’s true.

Very few teams have dominant DL guys because they're very rare.

We had a couple good DL guys last year and finished top 10 defensively.

If you have dominant edge guys and some veteran guys who can set the LOS against the run at DL you're elite.

We have one of the best in CFB coming back on the edge. We just need to get someone to replace Overton, another ILB to make stops and we're in business on the front 7.
