We are losing depth. All it takes is a few injuries and we’ll be down to nobodies out there

Honestly in this portal system I think you will see a new philosophy develop in some schools.

If you got most the pieces spend and if you don’t have then save money for another year

This year we are going to have a new starting QB that has essentially zero experience. Maybe we are “saving” money for the following year where we stand a much better statistical chance of making a deep run with an experienced starter at QB.

I don’t know what to say other than letting Keeley walk may have been a mistake.

Coaches are apt to leave with these approaches when their peers across the nation consistently get shitcanned on the thrifty year.

I’m sure they would’ve liked to have to retained him but who knows how much ND was offering? If he was getting a giant bag maybe Bama decided they couldn’t afford it because they had other holes to fill up (or renegotiate like Pierre) with more proven players

Besides depth, what did we lose with Renaud leaving ? He was decent to good but not a true game changer. All we can do is trust the staff to replace him with someone better.

Renaud by himself doesn’t upset me. But multiple guys at these positions leaving erodes our depth, and chemistry on the field. Indiana is about to compete for a natty and it’s because they got the oldest team in the country, that’s played together for a long time. While I’ll be shocked if they can sustain their success, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to look at what their doing and realize experience can absolutely be a proper (and dare I say, more effective) substitute for young talent

I want to see us go after some seasoned guys the rest of the portal, especially since there is no spring one anymore

Keeley was originally committed to Notre Dame before flipping to us, FWIW.

Saw somewhere we wouldn't match what Keeley wanted because they didn't consider him a 3 down player, just a pass rusher

Just kinda hoping Pierre doesn’t declare and sticks around another year.

Just to play devil's advocate, most people forgot he was still on the team until the 2nd half of the season. Also, I don't think we let him walk. I think he always wanted to go to ND but they didn't give him a bag out of HS.

Well right. My point is I don’t know what else you can say other than spend money they can't or won’t spend. We have no experience at SDE now. Gonna have to turn chicken shite into chicken salad.

I wonder why Oregon has 4 DTs (all over 330lbs) and 2 Edge rushers who all were contributors this past year in the Portal????

Seems like they are the only big program that got wiped out at one specific position group (Dline) like we did.

Maybe Tosh had something to do with it? I wish the staff would use their West Coast roots and reach out to some (or all) of these guys

Any early thoughts on what players we may to the portal? Posted by Bamafig on 12/17/25 at 4:41 pm Mbakwe R Young J Hale C Adams O Alinen J Renaud Looking through the roster, we have a lot of young guys in the secondary and the team overall. There’s a lot of them I’ve never heard of. I don’t think we will lose anyone that we can’t afford to, no pun intended.

Renault is the only prediction missing for me at this point. Hopefully he will stay.

Well, unfortunately, I hit on all of these guys. None are game changers, but did have some degree of experience.

Think of the numbers we might have still on our roster that just couldn't get a better deal and stayed.

You’re right, and you’ve been right all along. It just took me a while to have the understanding you’ve had. Some might call this way of thinking as negative. I’ve come to realize that it’s not. I’m positive that these money hungry mercenaries only care about themselves. Not only that, but these kids want the reward without earning it first. They think just because a recruiting service says they’re good, then they should be paid because of it. They have no concept of team or brotherhood. In order to see their teammates and team goals, they’d have to shift their focus off themselves and their own pride and egos. They’re over inflating their own value. Building a bubble that can only get so big before it explodes. I’m still planning on rooting for my team this coming fall, but starting to ask myself why. Not sure how much longer I’m going to schedule my Saturdays around this stuff.
