If I had a son id tell him that football is only a short period of his life and that honoring your commitments will pay off in the long run. Id tell him if you really want to make it in the NFL and want to put in that work, youll have that opportunity regardless of how you are coached in college IF you are dedicated enough.
I've got a couple of them and I can assure you that a one size fits all approach to parenting is not gonna work. How you'd advise your kid in that situation is pretty much always going to depend on the circumstances. Are we talking about a guy whose one and only reason for transferring is not starting as a freshman or being homesick? If so, I agree with you. You have to grow up and learn how to deal with what is, in the grand scheme of things, some very minor personal adversity on your own in college. If we're talking about a kid who was sold a bill of goods as a recruit or has an opportunity to go from an FCS or G-5 program to a competitive P-4 program though, you'd be crazy to tell them not to hit the portal.

And remember, 30-40% of players who enter the portal end up not getting picked up and wind up stuck in the portal, at a small school or out of football. The grass is not always greener.

I still laugh at Nick’s comment about players going into the portal, “The grass isn’t always greener and if it is, it’s usually because it’s on a septic tank.”. ??

He was referring to coaches interviewing for other jobs. It was when Kirby was being courted by Texas Tech during the 2009 season.

Unless you're going to a place like Indiana to get DEVELOPED, not just chasing the highest bid but an actual opportunity to get better

Chasing your dreams is something I can get behind, chasing a bag no way. Carrol i think was the context of the discussion. He got a tremendous opportunity to start at Bama on a playoff team as a freshman. If he leaves, I think it shows a lack of character

BOL expects us to sign USC DT Devan Thompkins and Virginia Tech LB Caleb Woodson.

Those are definitely needs...sounds good!

Good news. Hopefully we can get in some quality DL/OL and upgrade the running back position.

I really want to hear the OL news within Monday. I expect us to sign the RB coming in for weekend.

Does anyone know what type of build or skill set KDB wants for the offensive line ? Debose struck me as one of the roadgrader types that I thought Alabama was moving away from.

I've felt like some of our signees were our player personnel side just sticking with relationships and evaluations built by the previous staff. Worked out with WR Brooks though. I'm not sure this staff would have targeted him based on their body type preferences we saw at UDub and from all other WR commits. However, he is probably our most promising offensive player returning in 2026.

I don’t necessarily think he wants smaller lineman bc he knows what the DL talent is like in the SEC. I do think he wants lineman who are large but can move or are athletes for their size. People look at UW and say “he wants that type “ but he has access to more/better players than he did at UW JMO

I’d bet that DeBoer told him he has a certain window of time to find employment before Alabama makes the announcement that we are parting ways so that he can make it look like it was his choice. This could’ve actually happened prior to the start of the playoffs. Maybe he can get Sheridan to take him to Michigan State or Shepherd to take him to Corvallis.

UGA was high on him out of HS , he may get a look there also

No idea.
Does anyone know what the identity of a DeBoer team actually is??
I thought coming in he was a offensive guru type guy- play fast, prioritize skill, progressive scheme, develop underrated talent.
Now I have no clue which is hard to project what portal guys are a fit

Exactly. We have no identity as a team right now. Saban laid out how we would physically dominate opponents and we did a lot of the time. He adjusted as time went on. But with DeBoer I have no idea what the identity is.
