If they went 10-2, won the SECCG, and then proceeded to lose after winning 2 playoff games, you wouldn’t consider that a successful season?

Successful season sure. But how many of those in a row before people dub Deboer "Mark Richt"??

Maybe it was just me , but in prior years when Jam got PT, he seemed much quicker and maybe a little lighter . I know he had the injury , but he looked a lot more bulked up and less agile

Because while I don't think 10-2 and 2 playoff wins is a bust of a season I expect titles.

Dont you?

It's also a hypothetical question. Not my "mindset".

When looking at portal players and their rankings I see it like this. HS rating/ranking/stars is based on their potential to produce in college. The higher those are the higher the expectation. The transfer portal rating/ranking/stars is based off of their actual production since they have been in college up to this point.

The majority of the higher ranked players in the portal now have a lower rank than they did when they were coming out of HS. Various reasons of course like depth, injury, coaching, team, etc. but that is an indicator they did not meet those expectations, but the potential is still there.

Hopefully we find guys that have met production and/or exceeded those expectations coming out of HS while being hungry with something to prove.

Expectations are already on the decline around here. If we make the playoffs most years the sunshine pumpers will tell us we are unreasonable to want to run off DeBoer if he is without a title in 10 years.

Richt won 1 SEC Title in 10+ years. CKD already made it to the SECCG in just Year 2, and did it in a MUCH tougher league (NIL/Portal/Parity), plus it consists of 16 teams now.
In addition, the team (UGA) who beat them in Atlanta, CKD beat on the road in Athens. That’s a much different situation imo

That’s hyperbole to say the least. Expectations at Alabama are and always will be notoriously the highest in CFB.

It’s literally Year 2, in a major overhaul following CNS. CKD just played in the National Title 3 years ago, then made it to the SECCG and advanced in the Playoffs in Year 2 here at Alabama.

Was your expectation a Natty in a 16 team league, the parity of NIL/Portal creates, and having to win 4 games vs Top12 teams all on a row to win the Playoff all by Year 1 or Year 2 at the latest?

If that was your expectation than you must have been just as letdown by CNS in his 2nd season bc he also fell short in the SECCG.

Can we just give him 4 seasons to see what he truly is?

It’s a different world than when Saban coached. Expectations would be different in the 2010s if what has happened in the 2020s happened then.

I'm not suggesting that Deboer is Richt.

But I was under the impression that every Alabama fan expects national championships.
Not every year. That's dumb. But do I expect Deboer to win one? Yes, I do.

I don't hate where the program is right now.
I feel like it's right where it should be. But 5 more years of recruiting and portaling like he is, Deboer should be able to win a natty.

NIL is what happened.

Players stopped being hungry to make to the bag in the NFL.

Nice!!!!!! Now Justin Hill can continue be used in 3-4 different roles if Pierre were to get injured.

The only need I see left is a LB that I feel like is needed is a LB who can compete for 1 of the 2 openings there. If they can land 1 more LB, I would rate this class a solid “A”.

However, I personally believe Xavier Griffin will start as a TF, and will rank near the top of the list out of the 8 TF LB’s who started for CNS. He’s special.

The whole running game seemed… tentative and passive.

The OL would often be slow and soft to engage a defender rather than aggressively pushing people out of a gap.

The backs behind them looked like they were alternating between waiting for something to develop or instantly having to react to an unblocked defender before they had any forward momentum which makes it tough to get upfield.

The whole thing was a disaster top to bottom so I can’t tell what was coaching, what was the players not executing and what was playcalling.

But whatever the primary cause was it needs to be addressed comprehensively and it looks like based on the portal the coaches agreed.
