You're not giving that Pistons team enough credit. Tayshaun Prince was phenomenal in limiting Kobe with his length. Besides the rape case (and Karl Malone reportedly making passes at Vanessa Bryant), Malone and Gary Payton aged big time when the finals came around. Payton was invisible in that series.
Kobe was an a-type personality and Shaq wasn't, so of course they would butt heads from time to time. They should've lost to the Kings a few years before.

That Achilles injury really fricked Kobe up. Watching his final game and he looks so slow getting up and down the court.
