How real is Covid? My parents tested positive and are currently hospitalized. Mom is stable and dad is in ICU. My sister and I cannot visit. Praying daily. This came full circle.

Anybody have any relatives are friends in Mississippi they have chatted with about the outbreak? I'm interested to see how things are going since the governor is essentially keeping them open for business.

I’m here in Jackson area.. to be honest the reason we haven’t seen numbers is lack of testing. It’s all false sense here.. it’s coming and it’s coming strong. Due to our lack of social distancing we will be hit like NYC. Unless the heat really kills it Especially having New Orleans this close.. I have no idea what the hell he thinking.. and I’m a republican. Tate has always been an idiot though.. no one likes him but we damn sure weren’t voting for a gun grabbing Democrat. So we are left with an idiot that won’t get another term.

I agree . Mississippi is in the top half of the nation in number of cases now and have less than 3M people . Reeves is an idiot for sure . Smug politician who also reminds me of Kirby Smart the way he looks . He better wake up bc we don’t have the resources other states do if it gets out of hand here

Unfortunately for Alabama and the nation, it is now believed most states have had community transmission for longer than originally thought, and most experts believe we have substantially more cases than are being reported due to lack of testing.

That’s what’s going on here in the FL panhandle: lack of tests/testing and 7-10 days to get results. How can we keep fricking this up nine different ways to Sunday??

Ugh, that sounds terrible. Likely, it is also going to lead to problems with/in other states if the hospitals get overwhelmed and people flee looking for treatment.

No, not unless they want to get disciplined for violating the Posse Comitatus act.

Regular US Army troops cannot be used to enforce civilian laws except when specifically deployed by the president to quell an insurrection. The only time this has been used in the modern era was when Army and Marine infantry units were sent to LA to help put down the Rodney King riots.

National Guard is a different story. If called up by the President, they fall under the same restriction. If activated by the Governor and thus under state control, they can be used for law enforcement purposes.

You can go to the grocery store or restaurants for take out. That’s about it

Or work at 'essential' businesses - which are pretty much the only things that were open anyhow.

Or deliver stuff

Or engage in interstate commerce

Or engage in outdoor recreation

Or support any type of essential infrastructure

Or be homeless.

Here is the actual order. Read it, compare the exceptions to the pretty much statewide rules that were already in place, and you'll quickly see this served no purpose but to get the Mayor's name in the paper.

The unit being deployed is actually trained to help groups like FEMA and support in distribution of items and provide logisitc support in disaster areas.
