Are Tallapoosa, Franklin, and Houston counties the only new counties?

Saw a article back in February, that China was burning bodies to keep the outside world from knowing the true death toll there.

It is a LOT higher then what they are reporting.

Thing is, those reports are just as unreliable as any put out by the government.

Man, that's bad news for that nursing home in Dothan. It spreads like wildfire in a home and is a death sentence for most. That's why Washington state's mortality rate was so high initially. It got loose in a nursing home and decimated it, both residents and staff.

So downvoter, tell me how you know those body burning reports are true?

Just this weekend, an Alabama rag ran an anonymously sourced story claiming Jackson Hospital in Montgomery was on the verge of collapse with its ICU being overrun with COVID and running out of PPE.

Many media outlets picked it up and it quickly went viral - then a few hours later the hospital and one of the hospital's department heads writing under his own name said the entire thing was a lie. Now today, ADPH says Alabama is at about 200 confirmed cases with 6-7% of them hospitalized. That would be less than 15 people hospitalized for COVID in the entire state.

We have reports here that are over-sensationalized to put it nicely. If it happens here, you can rest assured it happens there too.

Do I think China understated the impact on them? Absolutely. Do I think that Chinese dissidents would try to paint the bleakest picture possible to embarrass the government? Absolutely.

Which brings us back to you really can't trust anything from China either way.

Maybe you've had it for at least 3 weeks. What's the life-cycle/recovery period? Maybe you should be tested. Prayers that you'll be OK and aren't exposing others to it

Honestly, what I have had has only felt like a mild case of the flu. I have felt like I got punched in the solar-plexus and have been fatigued and had a headache that comes and goes. I don’t think I’ve had a fever. Mild cough. I figure whatever it is isn’t killing me. I imagine it is just an already existing strain of the Corona Virus. As that guy in Monte Python says, “I’ve gotten better.”

Yep, that's exactly what I'm worried about. That Washington case was scary. It was early on so maybe there was something to be learned from that case. I would imagine nursing homes have to have been on very high alert after that so maybe different steps can be taken to prevent that from happening again. I sure hope so.

Yeah, there’s been a lot of changes. The homes I work with are on lockdown. Nobody goes in or out without being screened. Very limited visitors. They meet our delivery drivers in the lobby now to receive the medications. We used to take it all the way to each nurses station. There is an additional form in each resident’s admission packet that is a flow chart of whether they have met the criteria for a test established by CDC and the outcome of said test if warranted.

We were informed today that all employee travel was prohibited, either foreign or domestic and if we did travel or attend a gathering larger than 10 people, we would have to self quarantine for 14 days without pay before being allowed to return to work.

The North Carolina Board of Nursing says reports are circulating of physicians prescribing hydroxychloroquine, chloroquine, azithromycin and other medications "often in large quantities with a high number of refills" for themselves and family members amid the coronavirus outbreak. The drugs are being investigated as treatments for COVID-19, the illness associated with the virus.

"Board staff and public health officials are aware that some prescription drug wholesalers are reporting shortages of these drugs," the nursing board said in a statement posted online. "Pharmacists are reminded of their ability to refuse to fill prescriptions that, in the pharmacist’s professional judgment, are not clinically appropriate."

Wow, that is crazy. That is like something straight out of a movie. Hopefully this thing will be over soon.

That's at least good they've taken those measures with the nursing homes.

That should have been in effect weeks ago. I sometimes wonder if LovetheLord is a parody account.

Did you tell them where to stick it?

We're talking about nursing homes. These are all very reasonable restrictions.

That will increase quickly, but as of right now, there are about 1350 ventilators in state hospitals, and only about 550 are occupied.

The point of that was to demonstrate how widely circulated reports even in the US are very often false and you cannot believe any single one without independent verification - which is nearly impossible today because ‘reporters’ are so lazy they just circle-cite.

It is also worth noting that everyone hospitalized for this doesn’t end up on a vent so as you point out capacity isn’t dangerously low right now.

ETA: There are obviously some places in the US that are far worse off.

That's why we need to keep this thread as close to facts as possible, without interjecting too much opinion based on rumors.

I was just at Baptist East Montgomery ER about 2 hours ago. Like Elmore county yesterday, not a soul other than staff in sight at the COVID tent. Of course, I can’t say what was going on inside but outside was utterly calm. Same in the ER. Didn’t appear any busier than a normal day.

Hopefully this is a sign the community spread in Alabama is limited to just a few metro areas.

Regarding the reports about the drugs and self prescribing above. That is very true; all my friends and colleagues are reporting rogue yahoo doctors attempting to do this. But most of the state pharmacy boards and corporations are ahead of them: restrictions have been placed on hydroxychloroquine so that unless you were an established patient already on the drug you aren’t getting it. It’s unavailable anyway right now. Several drug manufacturers have reported releasing millions of tablets into the supply chain but its already been absorbed. My personal belief is that the National Stockpile has sucked up most of it. I don’t understand the hoarding anyway. You only need 12-20 tablets depending on which regimen you believe plus a Z-pack for secondary infections. People are showing just how selfish and shitty they can be in times of crisis.

COVID tent

Forgive my ignorance, but what is a COVID tent? Is that a mobile unit the hospitals are setting up outside for suspected patients?
