Oak Mountain Middle student tests positive for COVID-19.

Small correction that ultimately doesn't really matter, but the kid is a student at Oak Mt Intermediate School. He has a sibling that goes to Oak Mt Elementary School. All of those Oak Mt schools are clustered pretty close together though, so it's likely been spread to all of them.

Stupidity and selfishness mostly. My guess is a lot of them want confirmation they are not positive for it so they have justification for ignoring the quarantine recommendations. A lot are probably just curious. A small number may actually need the test.

Dare County here in NC which is the Outer Banks has just officially shut down the county. Checkpoints in place not allowing entry. Even residents who are trying to return have to apply for a permit. No cases there yet but probably going to see more of this.

It is impossible to put into words how embarrassed I am about the behavior of my country right now. Hoarding TP like there are no more pine trees in Alabama, buying up ammo like it's time for the Wolverines to reunite, and now lines and lines of perfectly healthy people using up test kits that might be needed on someone with real symptoms.

Heaven forbid an illness like Ebola ever took off here.

Yep. A doctor friend of mine said his office had multiple instances of people coming in for flu like symptoms, but tested negative for it. They were baffled at the time, and he's now concerned this virus is more entrenched here than we know.

I'm absolutely certain it has been too. I work EMS and we've been transporting 'flu like' cases for a while now.

One thing though, I find that encouraging rather than concerning. If it's been widespread since December or earlier and people haven't been stacking up in the morgue then it isn't as deadly even to at risk populations as currently believed.

It's about to get even worse.

Y'all see that pollen piling up on your vehicles? How many dumb bastards are going to start sniffling due to their yearly allergies and think they have this virus?

A metric frickton. And they'll all overrun the testing centers and hospitals.

People are so, so stupid.

Had that very discussion at shift change this morning. Every hypochondriac in the state is going to get their seasonal allergy outbreak and be calling 911 claiming they got the beer bug.

My understanding is that the Assurance Labs testing has the capacity to test 500 people per day. Thousands showed up this morning.

I have heard that as well, but I also heard the city shut down the testing site because traffic trying to get into it was blocking traffic to and from the hospital right next door. I work just around the corner and traffic was pretty bad around 11 this morning. Birmingham Police definitely blocked access to it initially, then about 30 minutes later it was completely shut down.

Our Governor put in an executive order today doing the same. All bars to be closed and restaurants no dining in.

Duke Univ just added over a dozen cases and new ones in my county as well.

My allergies are making me miserable. If the Corona can make it through my sinuses, then, I for one, would welcome the sweet embrace of death.
