This is a head scratcher for me.

Lame duck coach with the early signing period less than 2 months away?

Ok.

We'll see how much the SJW influence over the athletic department there is in Baton Rouge with this hire, or who they pursue.
Franklin certainly would be an acceptable choice, should he want it, otherwise if they go after a black coach just for the sake of it, that will be telling.

USC will be considering some of the same candidates as LSU and both will want their next HC before the December signing period. There's also a Carousel/Domino effect; e.g., if Franklin goes to USC, then maybe Fickell goes to PSU.

USC coaching search: Penn State's James Franklin tops list, per Pac-12 reporter citing 'industry insiders' (247)

He's incredibly overrated as a position coach that is coasting on reputation from 15 years ago.

But he's a fired head coach, so maybe

Personally don’t think this job is as attractive as LSU fans would have you believe.

There are inherent problems which make it challenging.

Political interference
Chronic lack of educational funding (would you rather recruit to a prestigious private university or the live in one of the least educated states)
Undesirable city with crime and bad schools (would you rather live in SoCal or BR?)
One publication listed LSU as one of top five for suppressing free speech
Outlier in the sec with a dem governor
Competing in sec west

The one positive is fertile recruiting, but so is Cali.

O hit the jackpot with Burrow and Brady. Les probably won riding Saban’s wave. Have they had an elite coach other than Saban?

Not saying they can’t get good up and coming coach, but some of their fans think it’s the best job in cfb.

They are willing to pay his full buyout to go away is pretty bad.

Also, that will hurt them recruiting, and I am sure the USC position will be more lucrative to take.

Reading between the lines on the CC board, it appears one of the LSU "insiders" is hinting at James Franklin as their next coach.

Coach O let the women distract him. Hit on the wrong woman and had his girlfriends at practice

LSU should give Jim Leonhard a look, but thankfully they won't. He's Saban redux, imo.

Maybe we should start talking about how damn great

Golding is, then LSU can "steal" him away.

It’s smoke. Given Woodward’s relationship with him, I think we land Petersen. I’d rather have Aranda with Herman as OC, just see way more upside than Petersen. Any mention of Napier and tRant implodes. They cannot stand him.
“WE AINT GON HIRE ULL’S frickINN COACH STOP POSTIN THE shite”
Okay lol
Dude is an analytical, offensive version of Saban. There’s a damn good reason Auburn wanted him last year. But he coaches at ULL, so there’s no possible way he’d be the right fit in BR. Kiffin gets some mention, but I don’t see it happening. He’s a good fit for Ole Miss. I’d rather we bring in someone with the least amount of baggage we can find. Aranda or Petersen check off that list, as does Napier. Franklin does not.
