How the hell did that happen? Ole Miss is one of the worst defensive teams in the league and the only game we score under 80?! Bama didn’t show up. Prob sweet 16 max

Their defense had nothing to do with it. We just missed a lot of open shots and got fouled nonstop at the rim with no call including Sherrell on the last possession

Sherrill can’t jump vertically to save his life! Seriously, rarely does he get his tiptoes off the ground…I just don’t understand how a dude that big (he’s not skin and bones) is so soft with the ball under the rim.
Meanwhile, in a nutshell…if we’re not hitting 3’s, we’re not very good!

Sweet 16 with this group is a good year. Finishing 2nd in the sec with this group is a good year.

Oats loves Wrightsell more than I love drunk shitposting so the only hope is he gets hot because his minutes will not be cut ever

Yep. We have no mid range game on offense. No threes against a decent to good team and we lose. Life as an Alabama basketball fan.

Need a 5 a real one. Trelly no idea what happened to him tonight. If he has an average night we win by 8.

A Pringle type would have been nice and serviceable this year

I thought you wanted us to get rest….

I did if we were locked into a 4 seed and by winning Friday and losing a close game on Saturday to a good team. Losing on Friday to a team with a losing record who has played 2 more games than you when you have a legit chance at avoiding a 1 seed until the E8 is a complete crash out.

Hopefully it gets Philon rest and serves as a severe motivator to be laser focused heading into the tourney, but we may be playing a 12 seed if Arky and St John’s win tonight/tomorrow.

That has been Wrightsell’s whole season. I think he’s has had 3-4 good games this year.

Just lost wire to wire to the second worst team in the league. Embarrassing. On a positive note - we saved some money on hotel rooms. Maybe we can use it on someone that can rebound.

We locked in at a 4 seed and a 3 isn’t impossible.

We alright.. just need Wrighrsell and Allen to show up in tournament and hope for a good draw.

I just don't get why Oats hates timeouts. Dude is supposed to be so in love with analytics, yet can't even take the time to draw up a potential game-winning play. Love the dude but damn man. How many games have we lost under him that could have been prevented if he wasn't so stubborn on this shite.

It seems to you can’t handle losing to well. But you’re not alone in that regard.

Oats is the best basketball coach the university has ever had and I believe his record proves that.

shite happens… I’ve seen some of the best teams in the country get beat by cupcakes. It’s basketball and loses like that happen to the best of coaches. This team has nothing to be ashamed of. This team still can make a deep run in the tournament.

I've been a believer that, unless you win your conference tournament, any other outcome in a conference tournament is inconsequential to NCAA seeding.
In other words, whether we made it to Sunday and lost, or did what we just did, it will not affect our seeding.
I do, however, believe the NCAA might screw us because of the mid season Bediako issue

He mentioned in a private chat that he is more open to taking them in the tournament/win or go home games.

He believes in character building and “play harder/play better”.

I’m not saying he’s right or wrong. I’m telling you what he told a group of folks in chat. He’ll do it if the season is on the line but in the regular season/conference tournament he isn’t going to bail out what he thinks is lazy or bad play.

Let’s see what the NET and WAB look like tomorrow. Think UVA, Purdue, Vandy, Kansas are all probably passing us. Nebraska will stay ahead of us. Could come down to Arkansas. Good thing we have H2H against both them and St John’s, but Arky’s was Ttown in OT so committee may discount that H2H.

I fear that this team is going to get bounced early like the JD Davison year.

The only reason that is more of a fear than rational thought is I don't think the team that got bounced by a bad ND team in the first round liked playing with each other at all. These guys seem to really like each other and pay for each other. Their problem are certain physical/talent inabilities not lack of desire to win.

They're just too damn bad defensively. You cannot have a still slightly minus guard defender like Holloway with nothing but soft stretch 4s and 5s and be an adequate defensive unit. Holloway is improved from last season and it still ain't nearly good enough from him most nights. Can't consistently secure rebounds and can't affect shots without fouling from almost any of the bigs.

That ain't fixing itself this season. I've said it before this year: Oats has got to go into the bunker and really scour the tape of college bball's best defensive units. He may need to find a new bench assistant to coach defense. Make some changes to the scouting and report presentation to the players. What this team's defense has been since the end of the 2023 season is not good enough to win a national title or even really just consistently be a credible threat at winning one.

We're cozying up on becoming one of those bridesmaid programs of college basketball that's routinely discussed in the top echelons but you know they're not a credible national title threat because their style won't win 6 straight tournament games. Edit: Still a better place than we were in my college days under Gottfried but still short of where we were hoping Oats would take us a few years ago.

I’ll call this shite out every time I see it, I’ve yet to see anyone ever say that he’s not the best the universities ever had as a whole. It’s not crazy to call him out on things. His in game coaching is very talent relied on. His feel for the flow of the game and scheming up points isn’t the best we’ve had. Recruiter, without a doubt.
