Why in the hell do yall throw Hills name around like he is a good rb. Never seen a kid that big get taken down so easily. No burst or wiggle. He is a fullback.

Hill is not very good idk what yall watched

Agreed, Hill is a short yardage goaline back at best

Dear, Crowell and Hill can run it and our coaching staff hasn’t demonstrated an ability to feature running backs.
Look at the nfl. They don’t overpay the position because, aside from a few outliers, that’s a position that can be done decently by a replacement level player. It isn’t a unique skill set like qb, wr, or
db
Running backs and linebacks are the most replaceable players on a roster.
I hear you and agree when it comes to the NFL. However, I think tailback has more value in college football than it does in the NFL. College teams don't have the luxury of only playing quarterbacks that were all-conference at a minimum if not all-american like the NFL. QB play is generally worse. Execution is lower in college and passing requires more execution amongst the 11 on the field going right than running the ball.

Did any of our running backs look good? Have any of our running backs in 2 years looked good?
You think we just mis evaluated like 9 4 star players and somehow Justice Haynes became good when he got to Michigan?

Hill needs to be told to lose 20lbs
He has no speed nor agility. #28 is a practice back at best. #0 is still a question mark.

It’s hard to observe the way this season and early offseason has gone and be super enthusiastic about next year.
Just trying to be unbiased, look at what is leaving either via exhausted eligibility, NFL draft, or transfer portal, and look at what it’s being replaced with. Right now we are replacing most of what’s leaving with HS guys. That’s not going to work in 2026.
Until something is done about the unlimited transfer portal, being a developmental program (in the sense that you take HS players, coach them for a couple years, and plug them in as starters) is a totally unrealistic way to operate.
We are not good in the portal. Whatever the reason, we aren’t. Haven’t been. I think much of that has been philosophical, but now we have multiple years of data that shows how to win. And we don’t seem to have adjusted to that. You cannot win big asking young players to make up a huge part of your team. And that’s what we are looking at unless a switch flips over the next couple weeks.
Ultimately none of this matters until it impacts the field. But people aren’t being crazy to forecast a tough 2026 season based on how this roster is currently constructed. And while the portal is still open for a while, the price is going to continue to rise for the desirable players as we inch closer to the end. How are we going to fare then, when we can’t secure who we want now?

He is praising the Good Lord because he knows he's about to secure a bag one way or another this weekend.

God is allowed to change his mind. Clearly the lord wanted him to see Austin. The lord was a big fan of True Detective and wants him to meet Matthew McCaugnahey

Hill, and Riley are lost causes. The two freshmen better be at least average and if so, they will be ahead of the two you listed.
I have seen nothing from Dear that makes me think he is special. Perhaps I missed it.

I guess that’s my point. You haven’t seen anything from ANYONE at rb in 2 years. Neither have I.
If you have 1 bust, it’s a bust. If you have 2 bust, maybe they’re bust. If you have a position group full of bust and transfers going other places becoming the best in their conference then that’s coaching/scheme/development.

I dont think Hill is as bad as you guys are saying. He did a lot of good things for us last season. I dont think some of you realize just how bad the run blocking was.
And how can anyone have any kind of real opinion on Dear when he got such little playing time.

Let's all be real, aside from the money which of course is important, if you're a player trying to figure out where to go, a big part.of it is who your coaches are.
Right now, they're thinking they'd be coming to play for a position coach or coordinator that maybe hasnt developed players or done a good job or either that coach is getting fired after the portal closes and they have no idea who their position coach will be.
You all know several of our position coaches and maybe coordinators aren't getting it done and something needs to change.
That stuff is playing a big part in this. For many, it is just money, but not everyone. If I am talented and driven and want to develop and also win, the coaching part would mean more to me.

Our OL also allowed an average of ONE yard per carry before contact. And this was before the last 2 games.
Mediocre RBs will look good behind a great OL but even great RBs will likely only look average at best behind a bad OL. Now our RBs looked atrocious so I’m not saying they are great.
But even if Smoothers did come here, he’d probably not do much either because of a dog shite OL

I honestly dont think we have the finances. Im sure they have a budget and because of the way we looked at the end of the season and the lack of getting good players the ball...Brooks and Williams...im sure they had to overpay to get them to stay.

Hill is trash. If he is the feature back we are in trouble.

Hill isn’t trash. But he also shouldn’t be a feature back. He’s a rotational piece. Situational carries on short yardage. He can make a pile move a little but he’s not going to make anyone miss in space.
